ParticipantHe’s going to be the QB coach.
Feelings about Zampese aside, I don’t like this move one bit. Hue made it a big deal that he’s going to hire an OC this offseason, yet he’s already filled 547826 coaching positions on the offensive side of the ball, and no OC. Plus, you can be Hue is going to want them to run HIS offense.
So I ask you, what kind of half-decent offensive coordinator would want to join a program where he has to accept all the coaches already in place, and can’t run his own offense? I’ll tell you. A coach that has no shot at getting an OC gig with any other team, so they come to the Browns to get a title they don’t truly deserve, so that Hue can use him as an excuse for poor performance and throw him under the bus when the time comes. Glad we’re getting an “OC”.

Well of course he will. He’s the head coach and one of the main reasons he was hired as a head coach was because of his offense. I really don’t see the problem with that.
Hue has a good offense. It’s just never a good idea for the HC to be calling his own plays, it rarely works out well. Let the coordinator do that so the HC can focus on running the entire team. Hue got outside of his own playcalling last year, having an OC in here to take that over is quite welcome. Plus, coordinators are usually given the leeway of implementing some of their own ideas/thoughts into the mix. Most likely, Hue is going to hire someone that is familiar with the type of offense that he runs, and allow some input into it.
I don’t look at it as a negative.

I don’t look at it as a negative. If it were just Hue implementing his own offense, I’d be fine with it. But that’s not all it is. His hired every other offensive coach/assistant, and the new coacjust has to live with it.
You’ve heard of puttin a square peg in a round hole? Well, with all these hires done, we’re no longer looking for a round peg for a round hole. We’re looking for a T20 safety torx that’ll fit perfectly into the teeny tony little niche we’ve carved out. That is not a recipe for success.
And based on Hues history, if we’re struggling on offense come week 8, this OC will likely be a sacrificial lamb so Hue can take back over the playcalling duties.

ModeratorI think you’re looking way too deep into it.
Hue needs to hire an OC.
The OC is going to have to be a guy familiar with Hues type/style of offense. For effectiveness, and continuity.
There’s really nothing more to it than that.

ParticipantHue is still DECIDING whether to hire an OC.
So he’s hired all these other guys as justification for not hiring an OC.
I Think you guys are being too lenient with Hue and not looking into this deep enough. The guy is 1-31, blames it on the players, and other players say we have a lot of talent. What a joke.

Are you insinuating that we’re waiting on a coach that is currently in the playoffs?
If that were the case, we could have interviewed them already, but haven’t. The only person interviewed was Sean Ryan, who Hue wasn’t willing to give playcalling duties to.
Furthermore, once the season is over, Shurmur and McDaniels will likely get HC jobs and create 2 more OC positions that are more enticing than the Browns. If you’re serious about getting an OC, the time is now. Not later.

You know, a guy impossible to interview for OC before he parted ways with Titans…

ParticipantIf they do in fact hire Mularkey, I’ll eat my crow. Though, I’m not sure how well the two would mesh, and I really doubtHue would give Mularkey the amount of control he’d want to come here. That said, at least Mularkey would commit to running the ball and not expect his rookie qb to throw it 40 times a game.

ParticipantWith Tennessee parting ways with Mike Mularkey, the possibility of him coming to Cleveland as the OC is evidently quite real indeed. I would think that, at least for 2018, Hue may still call the plays, though.
Call me crazy if you like, but I think it might be worth pursuing Ken Anderson, who’s been the Steelers QB coach, as the new OC. Just a thought.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!
