Browns signed Jarvis Landry to a five-year, $75.5 million extension through 2023.
ESPN’s Josina Anderson was the first to report the impending deal. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the contract includes $47 million guaranteed, and Landry is now the fifth-highest paid receiver in the league based on average salary. It is a shocking price to pay for a volume-based player who never elevated Miami’s passing attack past mediocre, but Landry at worst can be a reliable safety blanket for whichever quarterback Cleveland selects with the No. 1 overall pick.

I like Landry a lot. It’s really not fair to say “he never elevated the passing attack past mediocre.” Name me ONE WR that has elevated a passing attack with an average or worse QB. Randy Moss with Culpepper is the only one that comes to mind. It’s not like DeAndre Hopkins can somehow turn Tom Savage into Tom Brady.

Let’s break this ditty down piece by piece shall we? Let’s shall.
Shocking:
Shocking? What’s shocking about it? Sure it’s a lot of money, but considering the upward trend of salaries it seems pretty in line with the top of the rest of the food chain at his position. Not to mention, I’m kind of happy to see the Browns actually using their cap space. It’s kind of grown old always being #1 in the league in cap space because we haven’t paid anyone anything and as a result have really, really shitty players. What’s the point of having all the money if we never spend it? We’re spending it for a change. Grab a warm glass of Chamomile, light some scented candles and put lady gaga on shuffle, it’s time to celebrate and talk about your feelings. (I do it far differently, but this is how I imagine you celebrating a good day. I don’t judge).
Volume-based player:
I’m curious if you meant that as a slight, and actually did so with a straight face. What’s next, ya gonna call Aaron Rodgers a volume-based QB? Is Zeke a volume-based RB? Wtf is that even supposed to mean anyway, volume-based? Most receptions in the first 4-years in his career in NFL history. Yes, I agree, that’s volume based. Is that a fucking bad thing? Is being “volume-based” bad or something? I thought that that’s what this business was all about. Producing. That we signed a player who can do it in voluminously is uhhhhhhhhhhh, pretty fucking good. You’re over there poo-pooing like we just re-signed Andre Rison all over again and this dude is nothing at all like that.
Not gonna lie that’s the dumbest fucking thing I’ve hard you say on a message board, and I’m closing in on 20 years of listening to you ramble over your keyboard.
Never elevated Miamis passing attack above mediocre:
Do you think that’s on account of him leading the league in receptions year in and year out for 4 straight seasons, or do you tink it’s because his team has had SHIT FUCK SUCK QB’s during that stretch? Ryan freaking Tannehill and then right into Jay Cutler. Wow. Lighting the world on fire there with those two super-studs. Someone grab a hose!
How the fuck is one superstar supposed to elevate the play of a shitty QB? Did Josh Gordon put Jason Campbell in the Pro-Bowl bruh? Did he? Was Brian Hoyer elevated into awesomeness when Josh was out there leading the league in receiving?
No. The answers are all fucking NO.
The Browns just shelled out top dollar for an upper-echelon, record-setting, chain-moving, ass-kicking addition to the team that will without question make us far better on offense than this team has probably been since we came back. This isn’t Dwayne Bowe. This isn’t Darren Chiaverini. I’m not pumping this dude up as the next Dennis Northcutt. This is a real fucking NFL player getting paid real NFL dollars. I know why this sight is “shocking” to you….you’re just not used to seeing it. Let me let you in on a little secret here Soupy: (in a hushed whisper…”This is how real NFL teams that win actually do it”).
Fantastic, reason-based, awesome fucking move for the Browns. I’m honestly in shock over the fact that they were able to make such a great move. I didn’t think they had it in them.

I’m in favor of giving players contracts that we believe they are going to earn. Based on his history there’s a very good chance he earns the majority of that contract IF we put a decent QB under center.

I, yeah, I saw that. I knew that. I was just trying to……..
April 13, 2018 at 11:09 am #12078soupParticipantMy “unshootered” take is the following:
Cap space and draft picks don’t win games. Players do.
Even after this signing we still have $3000 million trillion in cap space, and, most important- it’s not my money so who cares?

April 13, 2018 at 2:52 pm #12090the dudeParticipantIn shooters defense, it does sound like the stupidity that normally comes out of your mouth.
I like the fact that they at least gave some stability to this pickup. This team needs stability along with talent because coaching sure as hell is not going to get us there.
Hue Jackson is a loser.
April 13, 2018 at 9:38 pm #12092mike barnesParticipantGreat deal we lock up a very good WR for his prime years and give our future Franchise QB a major safety valve.
