This is fantastic smokescreen by the Browns.
The ploy is to ramp up the value of Mayfield. With the Browns taking Barkley at 1, the thought is that someone may, just may, draft Allen at 2 or 3 before the Browns can nab him at 4.
“Leaking” that the interest is in Mayfield, those picking at 2 or 3 may very well jump at him and grab him “first”, thus ensuring that Allen is indeed there at 4.
The Browns have no intent of taking any other QB than Josh Allen.
Write that down.
