Just Blew IT! As NFL offers measured response to Nike’s Kaepernick ad, other reactions range from support to outrage
By Brian Flood | Fox News
Nike’s polarizing decision to put Colin Kaepernick at the center of its latest ad campaign has aggravated NFL employees, infuriated fans and even affected the sneaker giant’s stock. But publicly, at least, the league is playing nice with its corporate partner.
“The National Football League believes in dialogue, understanding and unity. We embrace the role and responsibility of everyone involved with this game to promote meaningful, positive change in our communities,” NFL Executive Vice President Jocelyn Moore said in a statement. “The social justice issues that Colin and other professional athletes have raised deserve our attention and action.”
While the NFL issued a gentle statement, some league office staffers have expressed annoyance that a corporate partner would throw the national anthem controversy back into the news cycle only four days before the season’s start.
The Daily Caller reported that President Trump said in an interview Tuesday, “I think it’s a terrible message.” However, the president continued, “It is what this country is all about, that you have certain freedoms to do things that other people think you shouldn’t do, but I personally am on a different side of it.”
Nike and the NFL have a deal in place that runs through 2028, with the company supplying game-day uniforms and sideline apparel to all 32 franchises. Indeed, Nike’s iconic swoosh logo is a prominent part of all NFL events.

September 4, 2018 at 6:09 pm #13173DawgSoldierParticipantWhere ever you come down on Kaps protest. Nike’s descision to do this ad from a business standpoint was epically STUPID. $ BILLION in losses. A WHOLE BUNCH of folks are getting fired for that.

September 4, 2018 at 8:31 pm #13175MDP Sack AttackParticipantThe meltdown over this is hilarious. “I’m burning my shoes I paid $100 for, take that!”
September 4, 2018 at 8:43 pm #13176soupParticipantAnd the stock will bounce back. Up and down is what they do. It lost 3% in value.
Overall I too think it’s hilarious al the panties in a bunch. Meanwhile the same people worship the pope who hid pedophiles.

Not sure that it even maters as I am protestant.
As for the topic at hand. the burning of nike stuff is dumb. Give it to the homeless or less fortunent. That or Cory Colemans closet has room 😀
Also it so DUMB and Disrespectful of folks to compare Kap to Ali Jesse Owens ect. That stuff is out there and very ignorant.

September 5, 2018 at 8:02 am #13180IceKeymasterThis was a business decision by Nike. Right now we’re seeing the backlash, the return on their investment may take longer. They believe that by becoming the ‘woke’ brand they will be able to get more athletes signed and be able to sell more shoes to the people who pay $140 for a $30 pair of shoes.
September 5, 2018 at 1:42 pm #13189the dudeParticipantI just ordered myself a new pair of nikes because I believe in companies who support people who have been racially targeted with injustices.
The knee never had anything but to bring awareness from day 1. Too many snowflakes get their panties in a wad.
Hue Jackson is a loser.
September 5, 2018 at 4:19 pm #13191MDP Sack AttackParticipantI don’t know…I think the backlash is a further embarrassment to our country, and I’m a firm supporter of Kap and all those taking a knee…but looking to Nike as a champion of social justice is pretty lame, considering the conditions in which their clothing is manufactured…

Another HILLARIOUS part of this, is watching all the “”WOKE”” SJW’s democratic socialist screaming “F” Capitalism into buying 5 pair of overseas sweatshop produced overpriced sneakers for “SOCIAL JUSTICE”.
Such Irony of course is lost on them.

It’s almost as though this giant corporation’s marketing people knew their audience and thought this through in advance.
That said, I hate that we’ve hit a point in history where kids turn to Corporations as leaders of social change. Their interests are (obviously) their wallets, not social change. If you feel strongly about a cause, get out an vote. Volunteer for a campaign. Write your elected officials. Organize/join a protest. Don’t buy a pair of shoes or change your social media profile pics into a free ad for Nike.

September 23, 2018 at 12:11 pm #13694soupParticipantThe original thread title like this are always concocted by those with little understanding of the market. Same as those making outlandish claims that Trumps trade deals will destroy our economy.
One day never matters. It’s the life cycle. Stocks are a long play.
The best part of this scam by Nike is they are notorious for using overseas factories that treat workers horribly with little pay – aka sweatshops

September 24, 2018 at 12:14 pm #13696soupParticipantThank you for proving my point. I don’t watch CNN or Fox. I just speak the truth.
They claimed Trump’s trade policies would bankrupt the economy. It’s at all time highs.
They claim Nike stok is getting killed because of Kapernack. It was around $82 when they made the announcement. It’s currently at $84.51. It’s increased in value.
The market is a long term play. That’s a fact.

September 24, 2018 at 2:12 pm #13704ShooterModeratorI like how now, AAAAAAAAAAAALL of the sudden, Nike using sweatshops to make their products is some sort of big, egregious deal.
As if they haven’t been doing it for the last 25 years, everyone has known, and people all bought their shit anyway because they didn’t care.
But NOOOOOOOOOOW they do lol. Lying sacks of shit.

September 24, 2018 at 3:08 pm #13706ShooterModeratorAdmirable I suppose. I mean I’m not gonna lie, I’ve known and still bought stuff. Still gonna buy Nike stuff. (Although I don’t often because it’s expensive. Why am I gonna spend $65 on a hoodie when I can get one on Amazon or at Walmart for $15?) What am I gonna do? How am I supposed to know who made what and all that?
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s abhorrent, but the reality is almost everything is made that way now. If you think the plants in Vietnam, Bangladesh or Singapore are nice facilities, you’d be high. And everything is made in these places now from all different companies. I mean Christ the Chinese factories that make the iphones have suicide nets on them. Think about that for a second. The buildings where iphones are made are so awful that they have to prevent the workers from fucking killing themselves.
We live in a shit world, that’s all there is to it. The reality is half the shit you own was made by slave labor or something very close to it. There’s nothing you can do about it.
That’s why I find it amusing that now all the sudden people are up in arms about it, as if they gave even 1 fuck before, and actually do now. Lies. I’m at least honest about it lol. They don’t care about theses factories, they just wanna whine like the melting snowflakes they are over a guy kneeling during a song. Idiots.
September 24, 2018 at 3:44 pm #13707soupParticipantI brought it up when he signed because of the irony. He’s known as a “human rights” advocate yet signs with a company that doesn’t care about human rights.
I don’t care that he knelt – apparently he didn’t do it for the reasons he stated

Idiots.I went to New Blance because they had shoes that supported those with low arches and or flat feet the best when it came to shoes. As for apparall I was and am more of a jeans and tee shirt kind of guy. But I have always TRIED to buy made in the USA brands as much as I could.
As for the anthem and the flag…our experiances vastly differ. I have handed one buddies wife a folded flag and told my God Son about what kind of man his father was. Because he didn’t make it home. The son is had dual citezenship as did the mother because my buddy married a Guatemalian that was in the US Army. When were still in the US I got weird looks when I would take him out as he was 1/2 black and half Guatemalan. The mom went back to Gautemala as she had more family support there. But I miss that lil dude. Well he’s 15 now…but anyway.
