Greetings from the padded cell. It’s that time of year when all the football geeks and self-proclaimed pundits start coming out with their mock drafts; so, I guess it’s time for me to start chiming in. There are no trades in this mock. With that said, let’s get started.
Nick Bosa – DE – Ohio State
Barring a trade up for a quarterback, this selection has been a foregone conclusion for months. If the Cardinals keep the pick and don’t select Bosa, it might as well be the end of Western civilization as we know it.
Josh Allen – OLB – Kentucky
Pass rushers are always at a premium, and Allen will become the highest drafted UK football player since Tim Couch in 1999.
Quinnen Williams – DT – Alabama
The J-E-T-S would L-O-V-E to get their young star quarterback a weapon, but none are graded highly enough to merit the pick. Perhaps a trade for Antonio Brown is in the making as we speak.
Clelin Ferrell – DE – Clemson
Chucky traded away their best pass rusher to Chicago, so it only makes sense that they get his replacement here.
Ed Oliver – DT – Houston
I could see the Bucs trading down with a team that wants to get ahead of the Giants for a quarterback. If not, then this pick makes sense.
Dwayne Haskins – QB – Ohio State
Big bodied quarterback with an NFL arm that can throw from the pocket with accuracy. That pretty much sums it all up.
Drew Lock – QB – Missouri
The Jags drafted Blaine Gabbert in 2011 and Blake Bortles in 2014 in an effort to solidify the quarterback position. Gabbert was a disaster and Bortles has been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Maybe the third time is the charm.
Andraez “Greedy” Williams – CB – LSU
The Motor City Kitties need help in a number of areas. This is just one of them.
Jonah Williams – OT – Alabama
It seems as if the Bills are always in need of an offensive tackle.
Kyler Murray – QB – Oklahoma
He probably won’t last this long, in spite of his lack of size, but I had to put him somewhere. And yes, I know that John Elway has already traded for Joe Flacco in pursuit of that elusive successor to Peyton Manning.
Byron Murphy – CB – Washington
The Bengals’ first pick will be on the defensive side of the football. Just which position, nobody really knows for sure.
Rashan Gary – DT – TSUN
The Packers should address their front seven early and often.
Jawaan Taylor – OT – Florida
Little salary cap space and a question mark at quarterback limit the Dolphins’ options.
Montez Sweat – DE – Mississippi State
The Falcons are going to spend a lot of picks upgrading both sides of the line.
Daniel Jones – QB – Duke
A quarterback falls to Washington in this mock. However, in the real world, they’ll probably need to move up to get their guy.
Dalton Risner – OT – Kansas State
The Panthers need to bolster the O-line and protect Cam Newton.
Devin White – LB – LSU
The Browns gave up way too much yardage on the ground, but I suspect they’ll address the middle of the D-line in free agency. There will also be a push for Clemson DT Christian Wilkins here if they don’t. It could also be argued that the Browns don’t have an elite linebacker, and thus the selection of White.
Cody Ford – OT – Oklahoma
Kirk Cousins needs to stay upright if the Vikings have any hopes of making it deep into the playoffs.
Marquise Brown – WR – Oklahoma
Somebody needs to take a receiver off the board in the first round. It might as well be Tennessee.
Deandre Baker – CB – Georgia
It seems like, no matter how good their defense is, the Steelers always need corners.
Nasir Adderley – S – Delaware
It’s going to be tough rebuilding the Legion of Boom.
AJ Brown – WR – Mississippi
They still need help at WR.
Greg Little – OT – Mississippi
They must protect the QB better.
Devin Bush – LB – TSUN
(From Chicago) Much of the problems with Oakland was on the defensive side of the football.
Jachai Polite – DE – Florida
The Eagles like to take defensive linemen early.
Christian Wilkins – DT – Clemson
The Colts defense has been a turnstile for years.
JJ Arcega-Whiteside – WR – Stanford
(From Dallas) It’s only fitting that the Raiders use this pick on a receiver.
Jerry Tillery – DT – Notre Dame
The Chargers need to be more robust up front.
Josh Jacobs – RB – Alabama
Finally, a running back comes off the board.
Lonnie Johnson – CB – Kentucky
(From New Orleans) This might be the first mock I’ve ever had with 2 UK players going in the first round.
TJ Hockenson – TE – Iowa
I figured that I’d give Jared Goff another weapon.
Hakeem Butler – WR – Iowa State
I fully expect the Hoodie to trade out of this pick, but I have to give them someone here.
Well, that wraps up this edition from the padded cell. This is Bill Wunkle signing off.
