Browns now officially own the Texans' 3rd-round pick for Duke Johnson
Duke was active for his tenth game yesterday.
November 19, 2019 at 1:30 pm #17186ShooterModeratorI definitely feel like we won this deal because the truth is, Duke hasn’t done shit for Houston.
I just don’t know what happened to that dude. Tons of talent and potential, but just couldn’t do it consistently.
On a side not, anyone remember that time I was talking about how the Browns should draft Christian McCaffrey and I was describing everything awesome about him and Soup said “You just described Duke Johnson. We alreday have Duke Johnson. Pass”? Anyone remember that?
I do.
I love when Soup’s right. Those two are nearly identical.
November 19, 2019 at 1:55 pm #17187soupParticipantSo you’re saying you’d take Mccafery #1 overall in a redraft?
You know what’s sad about the 2017 draft? We could’ve had Garrett and Watson in the same draft and chose not to
Freedom!!!
November 19, 2019 at 2:30 pm #17188Dawg E. DawgParticipantDuke is averaging 5.5 ypc. He’s still good, just nobody will give him a chance to be the lead guy cuz he’s too small. And that’s probably fair, I don’t know that he’s got the power to be the lead back.
Regarding 2017, don’t get me started. Worst draft ever. I stated going in that we should draft Myles at 1, then trade up and get our pick of the qbs left, with the assumption that Mahomes and Watson would be there , and my preference was Mahomes. I flipped shit when we got jumped, then my buddies and I all completely agreed that Watson was a good consolidation prize. I flipped shit again when we traded down.
There were only 2 players in that draft I didn’t want, and we ended up with both of them: Peppers and Kizer. Peppers is better than I thought, but Kizer is as I would have predicted. Worst. Draft. Ever.
And before you go saying that I’m lying and I’m only saying I wanted Mahomes to sound smart, I will fully admit that I thought Josh Rosen was at worst the 2nd best QB in the 2018 class.

I always lie to sound smart. That’s how I knew Baker was the best QB in the draft.
November 20, 2019 at 8:09 am #17190IceKeymasterFirstly, I wish nothing but good things for DOOOOOK. Awesome player, great guy for the community.
If we’re looking to see whether we got a good deal you have to consider what his trade value would have been at the trade deadline. Better than a 3rd? A 4th? Some team with injuries at RB might have overpaid. Let’s say it’s a 4th. So if we had kept him up until the trade deadline it would have cost us the difference between a 3rd and 4th round pick, which according to Madden 2001 would be a 5th round pick. Would you pay a 5th round pick just to have DOOOK for 8 games? As I said in another thread I believe we were going to run the 2-RB offense all year if he hadn’t been traded. He could have made the difference between 2-6 and 4-4. Essentially he could have gotten us into the playoffs. Would you give up a 5th round pick to make the playoffs?

November 20, 2019 at 6:51 pm #17207Dawg E. DawgParticipantIce, that’s a huge assumption that we would make the playoffs, and that Duke would stay healthy. Seeing what Baker can do with a better receiving back in Hunt, and seeing as Duke as been pretty healthy throughout his career, I think those assumptions could be valid, but their still assumptions.
The biggest assumption though, is that Duke would have played for us for 8 games. He was pretty clear he wanted out. He’s a good guy, but we dicked him pretty hard. It’s hard to say how far he would have gone.
I think it’s far more accurate to consider losing Duke as a byproduct of signing Hunt than it is to consider it a byproduct of trading Duke away, if that makes sense.
At the time of the trade, Duke was a distraction to the team, and it would’ve only gotten worse had more time passes. So, when I evaluate the trade, I look at as 1.) we didn’t affect the football team, because Duke was not gonna play, 2.) we got good value for him in a 3rd rounder, and 3.) I don’t believe we could’ve gotten more, based on his talent, his contract, and the devaluation of the position he plays (aside from top tier talents).

Are you saying his Souppositions aren’t valid?
