Although an MRI on his elbow was negative, Pettine announced today that Manziel will not play in preseason game 3 versus the Bucs this week and will likely sit out the last preseason game as well. They have reiterated that it is nothing serious and just a result of his 3/4 throwing motion which they have no intent to change. The Browns have signed QB Pat Devlin to take reps.

Game 3 was supposed to be Manziel’s chance with the starting offense to show some real tangible improvement. Now we may not see Manziel take another snap for 11 months, because McCown is awesome and is sure to keep a firm grasp of the starting job. And that’s sarcasm in case you couldn’t tell.

Yeah. Well now its looking like his season may be over. He got a second opinion, and its rumored that he will be having season ending surgery.

This is actually really good news. Now we should DEFINTELy be in play to get the first pick in the draft.

Are you serious? Got a link to that rumor?

#Browns insider confirming Johnny Manziel received 2nd opinion on elbow yesterday. Hearing it may require season ending surgery.

There is nothing awesome about this team.

This is actually a good thing. If he has season ending elbow surgery, then this will give us the opportunity to focus on our next number 1 draft pick. It is kind of sad that we actually have some wide receivers and a couple of solid backs, but again, no qb……year 16 with terrible quarterbacks.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

You all know that I’m no Manziel fan but still the best case scenario is that Manziel turns it around and becomes awesome. I don’t want an injury to derail that possibility. Still, I haven’t seen any of the big news outlets say anything of a possibility that he’s out for the year. I have my doubts.

I do too Ice. But its NOT a good thing when I hear, oh, its his mechanics putting stress on his elbow. But we aren’t going to change his Mechanics. WHY THE FUCK NOT. That makes no sense to me what so ever. I have the same problem. Being shorter 5’11 190 in college, I always would drop my arm angles to find passing lanes, and I had a lot of elbow soreness. It doesn’t go away, and it doesn’t get better.

Manziel has publicly stated that he’s had tendonitis since his freshman year of college (which was only 3 years ago) and that it won’t affect his career. He’s day to day but resting it during the preseason.

And if I were his agent that’s exactly what I’d have him say if it were more serious or career threatening.

We need to know what we have in Manziel. Period.

Either he plays and we find out, or he is injury prone and we’ve found out. Yes, I am lumping the elbow and last year’s injury together….because he is a smaller QB.

IMO, one way or another, the decision on whether or not Manziel is our franchise QB will be decided this year. The front office better be thinking that way and handle the off-season accordingly.

A tad bit unrelated to this…

I agree with you durakbane. This year is Manziel’s chance, although I think that if a good QB had fallen to us in the draft we wouldn’t have hesitated to grab him. I think this front office is finally learning that throwing draft picks at QB’s doesn’t solve the QB problem. We have to be in position to get one that they believe has real potential to shine in the NFL.
