    NFL.com’s top 20 of the 2020 Draft

Lance Lierlein of nfl.com has compiled his rankings of the 337 college players invited to the combine. Here are the results . . .

    19 – Mekhi BectonOTLouisville
    20 – Henry Ruggs IIIWRAlabama

And while this may not be the order in which I would place them, I do find it somewhat entertaining. We’ve heard all the talk that’s been made of Joe Burrow being the undisputed first overall pick for the Cincinnati Bengals, and he barely makes it into the top five in terms of talent. That alone should tell you how much of a quarterback driven league this is. Here’s how the Lierlein’s top twenty break down by position . . .

    Defensive Linemen – 5, Wide Receivers – 4, Defensive Backs – 3, Linebackers – 3, Quarterbacks – 2, Offensive Tackles – 2 and Running Backs – 1.

Here’s the breakdown by conference: SEC – 12, Big 10 – 4, ACC – 2, Big 12 – 2. There are other ways to break this down, but I’m sure that you get the picture.

I’m curious on your thoughts about Mekhi Becton.

The extent of my draft “analysis” (used very loosely) is usually a cursory glance through a number of mock drafts and scanning the draftee profiles.

With Becton, it seems like opinions on him are all over the board. Some like him as the best OT in the draft, others, like this, consider him a mid to late first rounder. Seems like he’s got a bigger range than most prospects.

What do you think of Simmons, whom I’ve seen fall to the Browns in a few scenarios? We could definitely use a linebacker (or safety, for that matter).

I’m usually wary of “positionless” players, as they’re often more athletes than football players, but everything I’ve heard about him is that he’s legit.

I know that many might like Simmons but the fact is the only way we don’t go ot in round one is if we trade for Williams and sign Conklin in fa.

If the Browns were to land Isaiah Simmons in round one, it would be because they traded up from 10th overall in order to get him. He’s that good. I don’t see that happening, in spite of his talent level, because the Browns analytically driven front office treasures draft picks. If they weren’t so desperate at OT, I think that they’d be tempted to trade down this year.
