That is a very unimpressive free agent class.

All the 1 year contracts tell you what they think of the teams chances this year. Another rebuild. Then next year when all these guys are fired we have another rebuild and repeat

Wait wait wait they traded for a Fullback too! ?? Andy Janovich

It is more meat and potatoes than than felay minion IMO, but there’s a lot of needed depth there too.

That and we have to see how the FA class dovetails together with the draft class.

5 of the 1st 6 look like starters with Keenum being a nice back up insurance policy

Conklin is a lock down Starter at RT. Hubbard likely is the new RG as he is still on the roster.

Hooper is the in line TE while Njoku is likely the Flexed TE this 2 TE offence. Njoku is basically now the slot reciever now and thats why the didn’t bring back Higgens IMO.

Keenum is now a journeyman that can come in cold and run this offence blind folded as he knows it that well. Not a bad insurence policy while you are in the midst of rebuilding a O line that by defition has yet to gel.

Johnson is a nickel corner upgrade pure and simple. He also can play outside if someone is hurt. These are good things IMO.

Billings graded out better than Ogonjobi at stopping the run at the 1 tech DT spot. Ogunjobi graded out better at rushing the passer than Billings at the 1 tech DT spot. Seems like a theres an obvious plan at the 1 tech DT spot off the jump doesn’t it.

Joseph has been hurt the last couple of seasons, Perhaps thats behind him perhaps it’s not. Hence the one year contract. If you look at his college tape he looks like a better version of jabril peppers IMO. He will absoluety demolish any ball carrier and form tackle as well. You watch his highlights and you just might get a football stiffy from all the wood he is handing out to opposing offences. “IF” this guy works out and stays healthy he could be the guy thats the answer to lamar jackson running the rock. As they could have a collision like dawkins and vick did a decade ago.

Sendejo may start as well as I think they building a big nickel 4-2-5 D. Just a gut feeling from the guys they have signed and it’s the trend in the league. Also he is veteran leadership in the backend as well.

Natson is a travis benjamin type that is good to very good return man. If you count return man a full time starting position of special teams like kicker, punter, and long snapper. Then he is another starter out of this FA class. Personally I count it as a starting position. Just like the other other 3 special teams specialists positions.

Olumba is a pet project of one the new couches on the defensive staff. The guy has super long arms, good agility and leaping. But runs in the low 4.6’s as a 6-2 200 lb corner. Personally I think just from his physical skill set I him out as deep middle FS type where those long arms could possiblely break up or intercept passes. Or possibly be a super sub vs TE’s in red zone area’s where folks tend th throw jump balls.

Goodson is a 2 down run stuffing LB that plays ST and is depth IMO

Soup did see the reasoning I laid out about the 1 year signings in the thread about 1 year signings?

The Browns sign the best RT available, a really good TE and then traded for a Fullback. This should speak volumes for what type of offense Stefanski wants to run and the fact that the front office is on board with bringing in players that fit. Both Conklin and Hooper are soon to be entering their prime and that bodes well.

There are a lot of one year deals which says they are filling holes temporarily. Players on one year deals have more incentive and maybe they perform well but the defense has me worried but free agency isn’t over and the draft has yet to happen.

I would never call this year a rebuild though. They didn’t tear it all down and start over.
