Just looking at the top tackles in the draft and a thought occurred to me it looks like only 2 of the top 4 project as left tackles { Becton and Wirfs } while { Wills and Thomas } appear more as right tackle prospects so what have you all heard? I’d hate to waste a top ten pic k on a RT after spending big bucks for Conklin.

I agree. If we use that 10th overall pick on a tackle, it better be a left tackle.

Thomas was a three year starter at LT for Georgia. If Berry feels Thomas, Wirfs, Wills, or even Becton is the best fit for the offense, I’ll be good with the pick.

Or, if we were to trade down, Josh Jones of Houston looks to be a good prospect.

Sounds good to me heck draft a guard in round 2 lets protect Baker better and see what happens.

Without going back and listening to it again, on the ThonaHawk show, they projected Andrew Thomas as a LT. He’s my choice right now, for the sole reason that having a Thomas at LT just feels right.

Also, Joe Thomas, after going to the combine, said that Wirfs would most likely need a year at guard in the NFL before potentially moving out to tackle.

Becton and Wirfs will most likely be gone at 10. Maybe the Browns trade up to ensure they get the tackle they want.

One possibility is signing Jason Peters to a one year contract and either draft a tackle in another round or even wait until next year to draft one.

Trent Williams is another option. The downside is the would have to give up a draft pick and sign him to a large salary.

They don’t necessarily have to draft one at 10 this year although it would be nice to get a LT in the draft that will be here for years to come instead of delaying the inevitable.

Thats funny, some folks said the same thing about Joe because he does’t have prototypical arm reach.

Personally I think Wirfs can be a day 1 starter at LT.

Just listened to it again, and I was completely accurate with Joes assessment. He didn’t say so much that Wirfs NEEDS a year at guard, he said he moves like a natural guard, and has the ability to play tackle. So he could start day one at guard, but definitely has the ability to be a tackle.

The only difference is he meant it as a positive that he could start or guard and possibly be a tackle, where as I implied it as a negative. Though, he did state that he’s not great at scouting, and his opinions were just from going to the combine. His rankings from the combine were:

    Mehki Becton
    Andrew Thomas
    Jedrick Wills
    Tristan Wirfs

From a scheme fit & talent I flip the list. :Shrugs:

Thats just how I see it.
