CLEVELAND, Ohio — NFL Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski just might find himself with a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year in J.J. Watt on his roster this season.
Released by the Texans on Friday, Watt is seriously considering the Browns as one of his options because they have a lot of what he wants, sources tell cleveland.com.
The two biggest things? Money and a potential Super Bowl. What’s more, they have a strong supporting cast and a positive environment. Check, check, check, and check.
February 16, 2021 at 11:07 am #20657IceKeymasterWould JJ and Garrett compete for DPOY on the same team? Because I would enjoy watching that. At this point in his career JJ might just be a 2 down DE but I’m ok with that. With our offense crackalackin not many teams are gonna be able to run on us.
February 16, 2021 at 11:11 am #20658MDP Sack AttackParticipantThis would be amazing for our defense. The biggest problem last season was players being slow to make a pre-snap read and not attacking. JJ is the exact opposite of this, and also plays the run very well.

I like the Hendrickson kid as a FA better or J.Phillips from Miami in the draft at 26.
I wouldn’t be made if AB signed him. I just would be worried he’d end up on IR

February 17, 2021 at 3:38 pm #20663MDP Sack AttackParticipantI’d definitely take another DE in the draft, regardless of whether we pick up JJ. I’d probably just prioritize it less with him on the roster. Don’t overlook that he can move inside for passing downs, which would make our third down defense fucking amazing.

I agree, and that’s why I’d use him as a 2 down pass rusher. Crazy idea, on 3rd and short or goal-line situations could he drop into a LB position?
February 17, 2021 at 7:09 pm #20665IceKeymasterI should also point out that 6 other teams have been said to have ‘mutual interest’ with JJ just like Mary Kay says here. JJ’s agent is just trying to drum up interest. We can’t read much into these press releases.

I don’t think we can. And TECHNICALLY we can’t negotiate with Hendrickson yet, so we have no idea how he feels about coming to Cleveland.
February 18, 2021 at 2:08 pm #20667DawgSoldierParticipantThe timing issue may be on “pause” as the whole league is waiting on cap numbers to be announced so they KNOW what they are working with.

Along those lines….

Hopkins is one of his best friends. Go back to playing with him and warm weather. Obviously Super Bowl potential was real low on his list.
Freedom!!!
March 1, 2021 at 10:07 pm #20706BrownsFan4LifeParticipantSince it looks like their will be a 17 game regular season, the Browns will play the Cardinals. Hopefully we will make Watt regret going to there.

March 2, 2021 at 1:39 pm #20708MDP Sack AttackParticipantUp next on the media rumor mill: Von Miller.
I’d take him as a bounce-back candidate. I would definitely not give him the contract JJ just received.
March 5, 2021 at 9:56 am #20732IceKeymasterIt’s pretty clear that the Cards think his value is much higher than I do. They’re paying him as a top player in the league who will be on the field for 4 downs. I expected that level of production but as a 2-3 down player. A recent headline says that Ariz expects ‘Tom Brady-like’ return on their investment.
I just don’t see that happening.
