pfn mock draft simulation
CLE 26. Zaven Collins LB Tulsa
HT 6-5 WT 259 40YD 4.67
Collins showed out at his pro day. He has the requisite athletism to be comparable to Anthony Barr & Dont’a Hightower as examples of larger NFL succesful off the ball linebackers. The Browns can use him to neutralise tight ends and stuff the run. His size and versatility also allows the Browns to play with 6 DB’s and allow woods to spy a safety on Lamar Jackson.CLE 59. Payton Turner DE Houstan
HT 6-6 WT 275 Projected 40YD 4.75
Turner is a versatile defensive lineman who once bulked up to 290 ro play DT for and then lost weight to shift back outside at to DE. He has extremely long arms with good and use and good bend and explosion. He has a high football IQ and reds plays very well. He was excellent against the run and the pass at Houstan. But will need to add to his repertoire of pass rush moves as a pass rusher in the NFL. He also can kick inside and rush as DT on known passing downs.CLE 89. Tyson Campbell CB Georgia
HT 6-1 WT 195 40YD 4.34
Campbell is a really good athlete. the reason he drops this far is he relies on his athletism way to much instead of sound technique and fundamentles. He is actually very simular to Greedy Williams that way. Of course all his issues can be corrected by coaching. He’ll push Greedy for the number 2 CB spot and of course be valuable depth.CLE 91. Nico Collins WR Michigan
HT 6-4 WT 215 40YD 4.43
Collins is a very good receiver who has had crappy couching and crappy QB play at Michigan that has hampered his developement. He projects well as a potential #2 WR easily with a possible ceiling as a #1 WR.CLE 110. Trill Williams CB Syracuse
HT 6-2 WT 198 40YD 4.42
Williams was the Orange’s slot corner and produced well there, but has the versatility to play outside as well. He is IMO a natural understudy for Troy Hill to mentor. He’ll start off as depth put may pus for playing time as a dime backCLE 132. Shaun Wade CB/S Ohio State
HT 6-1 WT 195 Projected 40YD 4.40
Wade has a Jeckel 2019 and Hyde 2020 tape that has many evaluators scratching their heads. He has the athletism and pedigree from the 1st round CB factory that is OSU. But this last year Wade acted like he didn’t want to be there. Then again with a covid shortened season that featured a weird regular season. A new DC and a new position the kid’s football world was upside down. But he is a 1st round talent piece of clay that projects well as a an out side corner, a slot corner or free safety depending on what the couches think. Ether way he starts as good depth that has high upside.CLE 169. Israel Mukuamu S/CB South Carolina
HT 6-4 WT 215 Projected 40YD 4.50
Played both free safety and conerback for the Game Cocks. Has incredible length with a massive wing span and good ball skills. But he is a bit of tweener as CB/S. But in a cover 3 system like BOTH the Game Coocks and the Browns emplay he is a natural fit and ofgfers versatile depth and the ability to play both TE’s and big receivers one on one especially in the red area.CLE 211. Trevon Grimes WR Florida
HT 6-4 WT 220 40YD 4.40
Grimes is a guy with the all the talent in the world but never seemed to get or earn the oppertunity to be the guy as he has always orvershadowed by other WR’s or in the case of Pitts and all world TE. That said with NFL reps and coaching his upside is to the moon and back. As his sparq and ras score project him well as a true number one WR type of athlete. He just needs the coaching and to put in the work to get there.CLE 257. Bryan Mills CB NC Central
HT 6-1 WT 185 40YD 4.46
Mills is a slim athletic FBS CB that showed well at the Recee’s senior bowl. He projects well as slot corner project and special teams gunner. While his speed isn’t world class his quickness and change of direction are very good. And his length give him some advantage over opposing slot recievers who tend to be shorter.Closing statements:
#1 I am aware I didn’t draft a DT. IMO Richardson, Billings, Jackson and Elliot have it covered for 2020.
#2 Yeah thats right 5 DB’s in one draft. Woods wants to play a lot of nickel and dime packages. So that IMO calls for a massive infusion of talent into the secondary.
#3 Yup I added two big outside receivers. IMO Landry and and OBJ will be gone in two years as their contracts will be up. So getting their replacements on cheap contracts now is a good investment. And as both have had injury issues it also provides depth in case that happens again. Grimes Collins and DPJ will be a terrific trio going forward.
#4 Yup Zaven Collins is back a top my mock draft as I have been reading more on Woods stlye preferences for personel in his dime and nickel sets. While Anthony Walker is a good LB but at 6-1 I’d ask him to cover RB’s rather than TE’s. In this league to have a top flight D, you need a LB that can handle covering TE’s. Collins is all that and more.
#5 For all those that celebrate today as a holy day. May Christ bless you and yours. For the non religious and the non Christians have a blessed and happy day.Thoughts, comments and feedback would be most welcome.

April 5, 2021 at 2:45 pm #20833GABrownsFanParticipantLove Zaven Collins as well. He’s my top guy for our first rounder, even if we have to move up a bit for him.
April 6, 2021 at 12:11 pm #20841BrownsFan4LifeParticipantIf The Browns drafted one of the top LBs, I would be really happy but I just don’t think they will.
April 6, 2021 at 7:24 pm #20842MDP Sack AttackParticipantI would be shocked if we take that many DBs, after spending in free agency. I don’t think any of those picks would make team at safety. We have room for maybe two draft picks to compete at corner, but that’s about it.
Love the LB pick. It’s clear out team doesn’t think of linebacker as a key position and prefer steady veterans and quantity over quality, but at 26 I think that’s too good of a value pick to pass up.

SO there could be 10-12 DB’s on the roster. IMO there are maybe 6 guys that are keepers at DB: JJ3, Delpit, Harrisson, Ward, Williams and Hill. After that it’s JAG’s/scrubs IMO.

April 7, 2021 at 8:12 pm #20844MDP Sack AttackParticipantI just feel like this year’s Browns would rather have at least two of Redwine, Joseph, and Thompson with a rookie or two on next year’s roster as backups and situational players, rather than all rookies. The players on your list will unquestionably be better than what we have in 3 years (although Redwine and Thompson are still young), but we’re trying to win this year. Different mentality.
We’ll probably scoop up some tackles (both sides of the ball), linebackers, probably a fast WR, and maybe even a kicker, in the late rounds. More likely to make the cut and contribute year one.

For me it just came down to shopping for the groceries the cook wants. Woods wants a DB heavy D. So I went with a DB heavy draft.
