This is what one site says about him.

    Positives

Nice-sized corner with a terrific feel for coverage. Feisty, mixes it up with receivers, and competes defending the pass. Quick flipping his hips in transition, fluid pedaling in reverse, and rarely challenged by opponents. Quick to read and diagnose, instinctive, and gets his head back around to locate the ball. Possesses a nice move to the throw and solid ball skills.

    Negatives

Possesses average long speed. Quick leaving his backpedal at times.

    Analysis

Newsome was a terrific cornerback at Northwestern the past two seasons and has the skill to start at the next level. Speed is a concern, though Newsome should be able to play in bump-and-run or even zone.

He missed a lot of games in college due to injury. I don’t mind them going corner–I would have much preferred the LB out of ND–but we have two CBs who have trouble staying on the field as it is. Quality player, but personally don’t like the pick at all due to the injury concerns.

Solid “B” pick. Devils advocate, I would of gone with DT C.Barmore.

There really wasn’t an “A” grade pick there IMO. In AB I trust though.

I was really hoping for Rousseau. I think we could have had a bad-ass trio like when NY had Strahan, Umenyiora, and Tuck.

But no complaints. Passes over the top of our defense killed us, and Williams is no sure bet. The secondary was a major need.

AB is gonna keep swinging at CB’s until they find 2 that stick. I’m not giving up on Greedy yet, but he was just sent a very clear message by the team.

Saw 2 things on him today. In 451 coverage snaps he has given up 1 TD. Last year on 3rd/4th down QBs had a 0.0 passer rating towards him.

I don’t understand the speed concern in the report as he ran a 4.38 40

As much as I wanted them to take a LBer in round 1 – as that’s by far our biggest weakness — this pick has made my faith in the front office even stronger as they aren’t reaching and still grabbing a need. 0 LBers were taken after our pick. that’s a great sign. Here’s to hoping for more defense today.

Sums up my thoughts perfectly. I’m just going to second this.

Also, I feel like the browns nailed their pick, while the other 3 teams in the AFC North did not.

I think the Ravens unfortunately drafted well (what else is new?), but the Bengals are going to let Burrows get murdered without a line, and Pittsburgh seems to be counting on a bounce-back year from their aging and disjointed team.

I just think all 3 other teams had perfect opportunities to pick OTs and fill massive holes, and they instead opted for the flashy skill position guys. And that’s just not the way to win in the NFL.

I definitely agree with that for the Steelers and Bengals, especially Cincy. Burrows is going to keep getting murdered, and I think Pittsburgh needs to restock both lines and consider their future QB as well.

But the Ravens filled two of their biggest needs (edge rusher and deep threat) with arguably the best players available to them, and there weren’t any tackles who would have been a solid value available. I hate it, but they drafted the way a great organization drafts. We’re going to be scrapping with them for tops in the division for the foreseeable future.

I am very pleased with the pick personally. I like intelligent players and taking risks in the NFL.

Also, I like players who are not on the “best teams” and stick out because of their skills and not over-compensated because they are on an elite team. This guy will probably be rotating in quite frequently first 6 weeks and will be a starter soon after that.

This is a position that the Browns have struggled to keep healthy.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

I hope you’re right. Burrow will be our biggest problem in 5 years IMO UNLESS they allow him to be Tim Couch’d.
