No, I’m not crazy. @Soup thinks we should cut him which is utterly ridiculous, but from an economic point of view trading him may make sense. Unlike Soup I’m not as worried about his play on the field; no one on defense is playing well in the current scheme. What makes me concerned is his concussion history. He has already missed 3 games this season due to 2 different concussions. Suffering two concussions that close together makes him much more likely to suffer concussions in the future. The fact that he’s still in the NFL concussion protocol 2 weeks later demonstrates that not only are his concussions getting more frequent but they are also getting more serious. I’m concerned about his longevity in the sport.
Joe Haden is a great team leader and a fantastic ambassador to the Cleveland community, but if someone offered me a 1st rounder for him in the offseason I’d probably jump at it.No, I wouldn’t cut him. And much to your surprise I wouldn’t trade him. That’s what’s killed this franchise. Trading positions to redraft the same thing rather than build off it.
Our scheme is awful and it’s the coaching that needs to adjust to the players skills.

If someone offers me a 1st rounder for him, yes, I trade him. I don’t even think I hesitate or think about it for more than 5, maybe 6 seconds.
Joe Haden has played like absolute garbage this year. And I agree with the concussion fears. I’ve always felt Haden was a good, solid player. I’ve never considered him a “lock down” corner because honestly, he gets beat. Alot. And he’s far from a ballhawk. He rarely makes an INT. He’s great in the “passes defensed” stat line. I love that, he really does break alot of passes up. But if he doesn’t break one up, he usually gets roasted. Breaking up 4 passes in a game doesn’t mean a whole lot if you get burned for 2 TD’s.
he owns AJ Green though, and that’s pretty cool.
But, if the offer for a 1 comes in, yeah, I trade him.
And now you are rinsing and repeating. (This is why I feel history is overrated. People study it and rather than learn from mistakes – they repeat them).
We wasted a #7 overall pick on Joe Haden. That said, he’s starter material. There’s no need to trade him because it leaves a void that has to be filled. It accomplishes nothing. It’s what every new GM we’ve had does. (Replace Sheard with Nate Orchard, replace Luke McCown with Charlie Frye, the list goes on and on). We need to build on what we have – and more importantly – we need to have coaches in place that play the players to their strengths. Not play their scheme even if their guys don’t do it well.
The best example of this is the Denver Broncos.
Tim Tebow starts. John Fox completely rearranges the offense for him. They win a playoff game.
Peyton Manning is signed. John Fox gives Manning the reigns to run the offense the way he always does. They get farther in the playoffs. Fox is fired.
In comes Gary Kubiak. Changes the offense to his offense. Peyton Manning is having a terrible year as is their entire offense.
Coaching is the key. Scheme is the key.

For the last 3 years, Soup has wanted Haden cut. Now all of a sudden in his worst year, he is starter material. I suppose it just depends on which drugs Soup is on for the day.

Browns have announced that they are considering shutting Haden down for the season after his last concussion.
This is terrible news for Haden’s career. Taking this long to recover from a concussion means he’s really suffered a traumatic injury and even after he’s fully healed he’s much more susceptible to further injuries. I hope he can continue his career.
I just read that Joe’s 2016 contract is a fully guaranteed $10 million. I’m not a salary expert, but I’d imagine that makes him all but untradable (at least for anything worthwhile).
