Browns blown out, backs against the wall
From top to bottom the Browns have painted themselves into a corner. QB Manziel is treading water until he’s traded in the offseason. There’s no chance he wins back his teammate’s trust. Coach Pettine has filled his coaching staff from top to bottom with guys who have very little experience. He can’t fire them because the guy behind them doesn’t have enough experience to take over. The same goes for Haslam. Any other coach would have been fired after this game but Haslam can’t fire Pettine for two big reasons. 1) He promised to give them time to do their jobs and after prematurely pulling the plug on Chudzinski he needs to keep that promise. 2) Fire Pettine, but then what?!? Who is head coach then, O’Neil is Pettine’s best friend and you’d get the exact same results. Tabor, special teams coach, is actually the most experienced assistant on the roster because he’s been in his role for 4 years. He’s never been a head coach at any level. Special teams coordinator is as high a position as he’s ever had.
So you’ve got an owner who can’t fire his coach, a coach who can’t fire his coordinators, and coordinators who can’t even choose their own QB because he can’t keep it together off the field. No matter how much they promise change, don’t expect anything but the same results.
