It’s nearing the most exciting time of year to be a Browns fan…. the offseason. Who deserves another shot in their role?

Who do you retain in their position? Select as many as you want.

Out of those 5, I only retain 2. Mike Pettine, and Flip. I think we need a new O-line coach but the offense hasn’t been the biggest problem of this team and we’ve seen some improvement. Also they somehow designed a scheme that made Josh McCown look like a pro-bowl QB at times. I keep Pettine in this scenario because he has made the choice to fire his under-achieving best friend Jim O’Neil. That is very hard to do but is needed. If he does that, he gets another shot.

I trade Manziel right now. His stock will not get higher. He’s exciting to watch and is making good progress but he’s not the QB for us. He’s way too much trouble. It’s better for him and us to move on and trade him to Dallas where they can handle ‘troubled’ players and we can get a nice high pick.

I think it’s a given that Ray Farmer and Jim O’Neil are gone; Farmer for his ineptitude in the draft and overall loss with reality, and O’Neil for his inability to properly utilize the talent given him. I would be willing to give Flip another year at OC if the people that Haslam brings in to govern football operations (looks like it very well could be Ron Wolf as a consultant and his son Eliot – who is currently the Packers Director of Player Personnel).

As for Coach Pettine, I can see a scenario where he could stay. However, to do this right, the head of football operations needs to hire a GM and let the GM pick the head coach. If Pettine is not retained, then I’ve got an outside-of-the-box candidate . . . current Special Teams Coordinator Chris Tabor (pronounced TAY-ber). He’s the longest tenured member of the Browns coaching staff and has helped develop players during his tenure in Cleveland.

And lastly we come to the roster. Whoever Haslam brings into the organization, they have to find out which players are boar hunters and which ones are bacon eaters. They then need to get rid of the bacon eaters. I’ll explain that analogy if you need me to, but I suspect that most of you will get it.

Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

Mary Cay Cabot is claiming that of the 4 1st round picks that Farmer is credited for, he’s actually responsible for only 2. According to her the Manziel pick was indeed Haslam’s, and Justin Gilbert was hand-picked by Pettine. It definitely sounds plausible. At this point it doesn’t really matter. The house will be cleaned. The players will be forced to learn new systems, we will suck, rinse, repeat.
