MDP Sack Attack

Good to see he’s backing up his decision to call his own pays by bringing in a few experienced minds to help on the offensive side. That shows me a lot of maturity and humbleness.

ParticipantSo . . . we get to hear more about “big guys that can run and little guys that can hit”. How marvelous.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

KeymasterI’m just thrilled that we have a staff filled with names of people I recognize. It turns out being Pettine’s best friend does not qualify someone to run a defense. Who knew?

ParticipantLove that Horton is back. I understand we had Q4 meltdowns, however – he had 1 year:
2012 (Pat Shurmer) 23rd in total defense
2013 (RAY HORTON) – 9th in total defense
2014 (Mike Pettine) – 23rd in total defense
2015 (Mike Pettine) – 27th in total defenseWhich one of these is not like the other?
As long as Kirby Wilson and Hue Jackson do their jobs and pound the ball – we have a shot at being a decent team next year.

I’m just glad he’s not going Pat “It’s all good, I’ve got this” Shurmer style with the offense.

ParticipantYou ask me, it would be very difficult putting together a staff like this. There’s a lot of experience here. I honestly can say that Hue is at the least getting his hands on the best available guys.
Suddenly, next year doesn’t seem so bad.

A quick glance at the roster should help change your mind lol.

ParticipantIf Hue doesn’t do a good job selling his vision to our veteran free agents, this roster will look a LOT worse in a few weeks. Like, wistful for Mitchell Schwartz worse.

ParticipantI always held scoring Defense Soup a BETTER barometer of success than total defense as points win the game not yards.

ModeratorMack is gone.
Aside from an epic, “holy shit he just did that!” Jedi Mind trick, Mack is gone.
If the Browns have a heart or in any way are merciful, Thomas is gone.
Who really gives a shit about Schwartz? That’s not really much of a loss.
The entire O-line is going to have to be revamped. The nerds in the rooms upstairs have their hands full.

Under Horton Haden was a pro bowler. Under O’Neil he wasn’t even a top 32 CB in the NFL. Horton cab coach. He puts guys where best suited. I have no reservations about this staff.

Participant.
Our biggest downfall is that we create holes to fill. This is a saying the Browns fans use every draft – holes to fill. I think this a really poor way of looking at things and talent. Instead of “filling holes” as we are one big hole, we need to focus more on coaching up the talent that we have.
Every player in the NFL is an elite athlete. What you do with those elite athletes is the different of winning and losing.
Hue Jackson is a loser.

You also can’t dump a HOF player then use a pick to replace him. That’s the issue I refer to. Like letting Sheard walk and picking Orchard. Made no sense. Of course they under utilized Sheard. 2 sacks last year. NE who uses him properly – 8 sacks.

Yeah, Farmer put it to this team pretty good. And while I was initially all for keeping Pettine for continuity, I gotta say we’ve upgraded the coaching staff in every way.
It’s this new front office system that has me worried. That, and Haslam’s patience with said system.
