    ANOTHER “WHAT IF” SCENARIO . . .

According to reports from multiple sources, the Cleveland Browns are going to sign free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III (possibly as early as by the end of this week); leaving speculation concerning whether or not they’ll use the second overall pick to select a quarterback.  Other sources are reporting that the Tennessee Titans have shifted their attentions towards Florida State  defensive back Jalen Ramsey; leaving NFL.com’s top rated player, Mississippi offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, available for the taking when the Browns are on the clock.

Considering the mass exodus of Browns free agents – particularly along the offensive line – should the Browns select Tunsil at number two (if he’s still on the board) and forego drafting a quarterback until one of the subsequent rounds, or should they go ahead and take a quarterback (either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff) to groom for the future with that pick? And what of the ultimate “team guy” Josh McCown . . . will he be jettisoned out of Cleveland before the ink dries on RG III’s contract? Considering the revolving door at the position due to injuries and poor performance – combined with the holes along the offensive line that need to be filled – maybe the Browns would be wise to hold onto McCown for the entire 2016 season.

I understand the rebuilding with younger and (quite frankly) cheaper talent, but I’m pretty sure that there’s not an analytical formula out there that’ll tell you how to keep a bad apple in the locker room from toppling the whole cart in Berea. This organization has recently gotten rid of one drama queen in Johnny Manziel. Why is it going after another one – albeit for different reasons – in RG III? I just don’t see him as a guy that’s willing to be the “bridge” to get us to the QB of the future that the Browns draft and develop because Griffin has already shown that he’s a “ME guy”. The sense from Jackson and company seems to be that Griffin is hungry in willing to buy into the Browns plan. That’s all well and good, but I wonder how soon it’ll go South with Griffin when he either A) gets beaten out as the opening day starter by McCown or B) gets replaced by McCown or some other QB on the roster as the starter due to his poor performance? Humility and hunger will then quickly turn into frustration and pouting – which is exactly the kind of behavior that we’ve come to expect from RG III-LOOK-AT ME.

I just don’t see the production he had in his rookie year happening for him here, unless Hue can get into his head (not to mention call the proper plays) to make it happen. The only way this makes sense is if they sign him on the cheap for 1-2 years and see exactly what they have with him. Maybe that season-long time-out taught him some things- who knows? Either we sign him and it works, or he becomes the 25th QB to fail in Cleveland.

I have absolutely no idea how the draft would pan out if we did take the flier on him…but I could almost guarantee that, if we do, McCown is gonna be shopped for a draft pick (or two, if they’re really good lol).

If this was 2008, I’d be on the edge of my seat just dying to know. As of now, I’m lacing my fingers behind my head, sitting back and watching this play out. But it seems as if they finally have a plan in place, and they don’t seem to be making knee-jerk reactions.

So…am I on board? Sure…if it works. Let the offseason games begin!

In monetary terms RG3 costs us very little according to reports Hue told RG that his signing would not preclude the Browns taking a QB at #2. So I still feel it’s a QB at 2.

I feel that you’ve got to take a QB at #2 if one is there you like there is no I repeat no guarantee that you’ll have this chance next year, so if they like Wentz or Goeff and he’s there turn in the card and be done with it.

A few of the reasons I was against the RGIII signing in the first place . . .
    1) He’s already been often injured.
    2) He’s not a pocket passer – which is what you need to be in this league.
    3) He often holds onto the football far too long – resulting in fumbles lost.
    4) He’s not an accurate passer – you need to be accurate with your throws in the NFL.
    5) He’s not particularly good in the locker room – you need your QB to be a leader of men, not a drama queen.

Personally, I see RGIII as just another warm body. If the QB whisperer can get something good out of him, then fine; but I’m not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

I see RG3 as a nice backup option. He was signed to be a backup and if our new rookie QB that we’re gonna draft pulls a Manziel he can start in a pinch. His contract maxes out at about $7mil/ year which is money for a guy that is not a starter but competing for a starting job.
