Manziel Going Down the Dark Road
It’s not easy for a 1st round QB to get fired by an agent, let alone twice. At what point does this turn from anger on our part to sympathy? The newest saga is that he and his friends allegedly rented an expensive house in LA and trashed it, leaving cocaine and shrooms all over the place. Clearly alcohol isn’t Manziel’s only problem.
I’m all about personal responsibility. If it’s Manziel’s decision to not continue his football career then I won’t criticize it, but if he’s looking to still be in the NFL then he’s an idiot. There just isn’t a market for alleged drug-addicted girlfriend-beating quarterbacks with debatable talent and deficient work ethic. If it was just 1 of those things he’d be on a team getting ‘help’.
As it is, I’m still pissed at him. We drafted him and he repeatedly promised us that his problems were in the past and he was gonna ‘wreck the league’. He screwed the Browns, and he screwed the Browns fans. He isn’t a victim, he’s someone who is constantly making bad choices despite the advice of EVERYONE around him. We paid him millions of dollars and used a very high draft pick on him and he laughed at us. He’s still laughing. I have no pity for that.
April 15, 2016 at 11:04 am #4825ShooterModeratorIt should be noted that Drew Rosenhaus, in 27 years as a sports agent, has never fired a client before. Johnny is the 1st. That’s powerful.
It’s clear that this kid has no intention of waking or growing up any time soon.
April 15, 2016 at 12:31 pm #4828Dawg E. DawgParticipantI hate to beat a dead horse, but when you look at Johnny Manziel, it really makes Shooter’s point about the ridiculous amount of scrutiny Josh Gordon is under.
Manziel has well documented, well publized, serious substance abuse issues that go beyond alcohol. Somehow, he’s never been (that I can recall) suspended by the NFL for his issues. Yet, Gordon has been suspended at least 30 games that I can think of off the top of my head for a 1ng fail and a beer or two with the team.
It’s this clear hypocrisy that shows the NFL’s only priority is making it look like their hard on substance abuse. They don’t care what players do, as long as they pass their once a year drug test that falls within a well-defined time frame. I.e., if you’re not in the program, do whatever you want. If you’re in the program, we better not catch you drinking communion wine on Christmas.
April 15, 2016 at 1:03 pm #4829ShooterModeratorRight!???
He’s being sued by a rental owner for trashing a house/room/whatever where there were elaborate parties, boozing, coke, shrooms, and marijuana. Where are the NFL testers? Why aren’t they waiting for him on a tarmac somewhere?
He’s on TV/the internet every other day, clearly hammered and all sorts of fucked up, yet nothing from the NFL. Not a word. Not a peep. Clearly, he’s doing more than just drinking. I understand he’s not on a roster, but he’s still in the NFL, and subject to it’s substance abuse policies.
The hypocrisy is just stunning.
You have a case of a guy, clear as day, blatantly breaking rules and on a public mission of non-fuck giving, and literally nothing is happening to him from the league.
And yet, Gordon has a CBA negotiated confidential drug test come back with a trace of marijuana, but under the limits that would trigger a fail, released publicly and has his petition for reinstatement denied.
I mean, it’s stupefying. The level of total and complete hypocrisy is so far off the charts here that is immeasurable.
April 15, 2016 at 6:59 pm #4832BillWunkleParticipantHe was dead to me even before the Browns released him; and at the pace he’s going, he’ll be dead to the rest of the world within a few months.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!
April 16, 2016 at 9:52 am #4834soupParticipantWho gives a shit. He’s a moron who makes idiotic choices. Don’t care what happens to him. It’s called personal responsibility. HE refuses help – when he dies from it I’m not going to give a shit because it’s his own fault.
Freedom!!!
April 19, 2016 at 8:36 pm #4857IceKeymasterManziel released a statement today.
“I’m hoping to take care of the issues in front of me right now so I can focus on what I have to do if I want to play in 2016”
Notice he didn’t say “so I can play in 2016”, but he said “IF I want to play in 2016″
Apparently the issue in front of him is escaping a ballpit at Coachella
April 19, 2016 at 8:49 pm #4862ShooterModeratorWell Ice to be fair, if he’s going to play, he really does need to get out of that ball pit first.
April 20, 2016 at 7:48 am #4875IceKeymasterIf we hadn’t released him a month ago, Manziel would currently be flooding instagram with pics of him ‘studying his playbook’ amid all the news about him at Coachella. #billyvegas

That’s the Manziel equivalent of posting instagram workout videos while failed drug test reports are being leaked. Not that anybody would do such a thing.
