BillWunkleParticipantI hate to be the one to say “I told you so”, but I told you so. The selection of Johnny Manziel by the Browns is arguably the worst in franchise history; and this is a franchise that has a track record of blowing draft pick after draft pick.
Here’s an interesting quote from the article:
“One former NFL assistant coach familiar with developing quarterbacks said it was a mistake to draft Manziel, but it would be a bigger mistake to let him go.”
My question is “Why . . . why would it be an even bigger mistake to let him go? Why are the browns even bothering to waste one more red cent on this punk?”
Another question I’d like to ask the Browns; what was there about his behavior throughout his time at Texas A&M that led you to believe that he’d be any different at the next level? I’ll have more on this in an upcoming article on brownsfootballtalk.com, so stay tuned.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

IceKeymasterYou and I have always seen eye to eye on Manziel. During the draft as every team came up I was hoping and praying someone would take Manziel before we made a colossal mistake. When we traded up I was saying “Anyone but Manziel. Anyone but Manziel” but of course as a Browns fan I’m used to being sorely disappointed. I honestly, truly thought Manziel was worth a 5th round flier. He was a very good college QB but he ran an extraordinarily simple system and I would NEVER take a QB in the 1st round that had work ethic issues.
Clearly Manziel is poison in the locker room. Guys like him, but they don’t respect him. I don’t see why they would, respect has to be earned.

the dudeParticipantThe same can be said in regards to Gordon. He also had a track record of problems, yet the clowns took a risk on him. Nobody is as critical on this pick – yes I know it wasn’t officially a draft pick, but it really was.
This team has a history of drafting players with character flaws. I am concerned that no one even bothers looking into these players history, but specifically expect them to magically change. For as much money in consulting as they payed, they should spend money on more character development and what is expected out of browns players.
As far as I am concerned, this whole organization needs to be wiped out and restructured. Owner should never be making calls on picks. Coaches should never be receiving threatening texts on the sidelines. Your QB shouldn’t be missing because he is drunk.
Every person in this organization is responsible. As fans, we expect better. Fans need to start demanding better.

IceKeymasterI think the Gordon pick is very different than the Manziel pick and doesn’t deserve as much scrutiny. It was a calculated risk; there was no doubt that Gordon had talent, the question was if they could keep him in control. That’s a very different situation than Manziel who IMO had NEVER shown NFL QB talent. If I could pick one guy to be the QB of my flag football team I’d take JFF, but if I’m picking a guy to lead an NFL franchise he wouldn’t even be a consideration.

the dudeParticipantEven though we came through with 7 wins and junk at the QB, this wasn’t too far off from flag football.
I see what you are saying with calculated risk – but it would also mean that there was more off the field risk with Gordon as he was basically kicked off the team after 3 failed test. Manziel never had legal trouble or was suspended due to off the field incidents. Also, he one the greatest achievement in college sports as a freshmen which helps make his case. I mean Tim Tebow was also picked in the first round by Josh McDaniels who is in the Super Bowl this week. Yeah Tebow didn’t turn out to be very good either, but looking back he did help get them in the playoffs.
