Word is trickling out that Gordon has been given the OK to return to the team, but must serve an additional 4 game suspension. No word yet on what the 4 games are for.
July 25, 2016 at 2:17 pm #5425IceKeymasterLike him or hate him, this is an asset to the Browns. We can choose to either keep him or trade him. I imagine his trade value would be about a 2nd rounder, maybe less.
July 25, 2016 at 2:40 pm #5426akron pros1920Participantthis is good news…hopefully new regime can redeem him.
World Champion 1920 Akron Pros still undefeated!
July 26, 2016 at 7:05 am #5427BillWunkleParticipantSashi Brown released the following statement . . .
“With the league’s decision to afford Josh the opportunity to resume his career, he will be with us for the start of training camp. At that time, we will discuss directly with Josh the direction of our team, our expectations of our players and a plan to support him on and off the field.”
This is not exactly a ringing endorsement on Brown’s behalf. Josh’s return to the Browns could indeed be very short-lived, whether from him failing yet another drug test or from the Browns either trading him or giving him his outright release.
The Ball is clearly in Gordon’s court. If he comes in and fails to put forth the effort that Coach Jackson expects out of a number one receiver, then he’s most likely out of here.
Ice asked me what I thought we could get for Gordon in a trade. His line of thinking seemed to be in the second to third round neighborhood. Depending on which Josh Gordon shows up for camp and pre-season games, that could possibly go up to even a first round pick. However, it could also spiral downward to the point where no team would be willing to give up anything.
Josh Gordon has proven – albeit over a very short time span – that, when he’s right in the head, he has the talent to be the best receiver in the NFL. My only question is, “After being suspended for so long, which Josh Gordon are the Browns getting?” For Josh’s sake and for the Browns’ sake as well, I hope that Josh finally has his act together. The thing is though, I just can’t trust him because of his track record that dates back to his college days.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!
July 26, 2016 at 9:45 am #5429IceKeymasterI’m starting to think that a 2nd-3rd rounder may have been optimistic. Even assuming he doesn’t miss another game for the rest of his life, he hasn’t played football in forever. What kind of shape is he in? Now add in the risk of him getting banned for life (which is pretty high) and he’s worth probably no more than a 4th rounder, maybe more like a 5th-6th.
July 27, 2016 at 12:08 pm #5431soupParticipantHe’s got a quad injury. I’m still convinced he’ll never play another down again for any team.

Hue Jackson is a loser.
July 28, 2016 at 9:07 am #5433IceKeymasterIt’s very possible. Quad injury is what teams report when they don’t want to report the truth. It’s likely we’re just keeping him out of training camp so we can trade him.
How did he injure his quad, popping bottles with Johnny Rotten?

July 29, 2016 at 1:43 pm #5435ShooterModerator12 games. 1,400 yards receiving. 10 TD’s. Pro-Bowl.
Lol, I have no idea what’s happening with this dude. He could shit the bed, he could go right back to being a stud, he could accidentally see a Budweiser commercial while watching Dancing with the Stars and get suspend for 84 games. I don’t have a clue. No one does.
But I will say this. He’s still only 25. His talent is known and documented. If he’s healthy, in shape, and on the straight, he’s a game-changer.
I just don’t see, in any way shape or form, the Browns dumping him now though. If they were going to, they would have done it by now. He’s missed 26 of the last 32 games. Why keep him around all this time just to cut bait now? Trade him? For what? His value is non-existent. There is nothing to gain by trading him, yet potentially a ton to lose. You keep him around and you put him on the field in week 5. If he has a monster comeback and stays clean, the Browns are all the sudden LOADED at the receiver position.
If he sucks, gets hurt, takes an advil……then you just release him. No harm no foul.
But you don’t keep him all this time and then do it now, and you don’t trade him because you’re going to get a football rack and a few jockstraps. Both are just dumb.
July 29, 2016 at 2:28 pm #5436IceKeymasterBecause he was suspended indefinitely and his chances to return were very small. Now he will be eligible as of game 5, so his value jumps up.

To what? A 7th rounder? I mean let’s be realistic here, whoever is trading for him is assuming a shitload of risk. He’s got 1st round talent with a waterboy brain. No one is going to pay for that. I know I make jokes and stuff but seriously, if this guy uses an aerosol can in a manner other than directed, he’s done. He’s not just walking on eggshells, the eggshells are on top of a house of cards that are stacked on a sheet of ice as thick as a human hair.
His value went from absolutely nothing, to barely anything. It would be very Browns-like to trade him for a 6th or 7th rounder only to see him get his shit together and be a beast on the field for the next 7 seasons for someone else while we get practice squad fodder in return.
No, you don’t trade him now. You keep him. If he gets it together, you have a monster. If not he’s done forever anyway, so you keep the thought process of “he’s a beast for us or no one”.
