I basically agree with you, but I don’t consider Tyrod Taylor to be trash. He’s put up pretty decent numbers, and his WRs aren’t exactly hall of famers.

Quite frankly, I’d be amazed if they actually let him go. Apparently there’s a clause in his contract that guarantees the rest of his contract if he’s injured, so the Bills may be trying to avoid that happening in a meaningless game by benching him under the guise of evaluating EJ Manuel.

Manuel looks like complete trash to me, so I cant think they’d really be interested in giving up Taylor for him, but you never know, I guess.

I only started considering Taylor because some don’t feel there is a franchise QB in this draft, and if he’s not there, who’s gonna be our QB next year?

Taylor can run, but he can’t throw for shit.

    No value.

Taylor is not a franchise QB. We’d be better off drafting a guy this year or going with Kessler. It’s a guarantee Taylor isn’t the guy

Taylor will be a decent backup in this league. If the main QB goes down Taylor can come in and do enough to give the team a chance to win.

Our next QB will come from the draft.

This has happened so much in the past…so, let’s ask Mr. Wonka what happens when we take a QB and ask him to learn a new system…

Mr. Wonka says no. Conversely, I wish he was our GM…

Manning? You mean a HOF QB signed by Denver?

Warner? You mean a Super Bowl winner and MVP who had 2 Super Bowl appearances under his belt?

Steve Young was a different era.

Brees doesn’t count as he had good NFL success before being injured.

Favre I’ll give you. He’s canceled out by all the guys I mentioned.

No thanks. They’ve proven any number of QBs can win in their system.

Giving up a 1st round D pick or multiple 2nds is way too high for a NE product with a whopping 2 starts before injury.

Manning? You mean a HOF QB signed by Denver?

The one who had his neck broken and required 4 surgeries including spinal fusion surgery which destroyed permanently nerves in his neck greatly affecting his ability to throw a football and cast off by his only team he ever played for because they thought he was done and became available to the highest bidder? Yes, yes I was talking about that Peyton Manning.

Warner? You mean a Super Bowl winner and MVP who had 2 Super Bowl appearances under his belt?

The undrafted player out of Northern Iowa, cut by the packers in 1994 and found stocking grocery store shelves while playing in the Arena League and thrust into playing time by a season ending injury to Starter Trent green and then proceeded to have an amazing career? Yes, I was talking about that Kurt Warner.

Steve Young was a different era.

Steve Youngs career overlapped ever other QB’s career I mentioned. And it doesn’t change the fact that the Bucaneers dumped him because they figured him to be a bustus maximus. Went on to a HOF career.

Brees doesn’t count as he had good NFL success before being injured.

Yeah, but said injury was told by doctors as career ending and that he’d never even be able to throw a football again. Was so devastating that his team dumped him and drafted another 1st round QB.

My point is, all of these guys were considered “other teams trash” at some point. When they were finally given a chance/2nd chance though, that proved to be immensely untrue.

For every Scott Mitchell you bring up, I can counter with an Alex Smith. I’m just trying to show you the other side of the coin. Getting a QB from another teams roster is hardly always a “trash recycling”.

FOR YEARS YOU ALWAYS SAY DON’T draft a qb….until the third round…so here we are…..kessler….charlie frye 2.0….and you will continue to slobber over a less than par college hero

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

Soup I will agree with your assumption here.

But I do want everyone here to know that we are under a different era in the NFL. The 2 or 3 elites are getting towards the end….it is time to start drafting qbs. I literally would appreciate the clowns, if they draft the top qbs in round 1 – both of them, and then he rest offensive lineman.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

Jimmy G. – thrown a total of 93 passes in the NFL will be asking somewhere between a 1 and 4 pick or 2 and 6.

Peyton Manning – hall of fame career. Proven he can play QB. Signed as a free agent. No comparison.

Drew Brees – 5 years in SD proved he can play. Signed as a free agent as he was cleared by Saints doctors. Again, no comparison.

Kurt Warner – he was a back up QB thrust into a starting role due to injury. Absolutely not even close to a comparison.

Steve Young is a valid comparison (I felt like he was way older than that. My bad) he was traded for a 2nd and a 4th.

Brett Favre was traded for 19th overall. He’s a valid comparison.

Matt Schaub is a valid comparison as he was traded for 2 second round picks.

I still loathe the idea due to Cassell going 11-5 in that offense and I think the price is way too high

How lol? It would be almost identical. An unknown backup QB being asked to start. Seems pretty darn similar to me.

And you’re missing the point on Manning and Brees. They were still considered, as you put it, another teams “trash” at the time. They were incredibly high risk, damaged goods. I’m in no way comparing Garappolo to Manning or Brees though. C’mon, I’m not crazy. I was just again making the point that another teams trash could possibly be a treasure. The circumstances were very different I’ll grant, but nonetheless they became castoffs.

It’s interesting you guys brought up Brees when talking about Garapolo, because Brees numbers his last 2 years in SD aren’t that dissimilar from Taylor’s numbers the last two years. Taylor didn’t play 16 games either year, but if you factor in a modest output for the 3 missing games, it’s a difference of mayave 200 yards over the season. Brees through a few more TDs, but also more picks.

I’d like to draft a QB and roll with them, but if that guys not there, you’d be hard pressed to do better than Taylor.

Warner wasn’t traded for. That’s my point on why he’s in no way a comparison. Tony Romo was a UDFA 3rd string QB. May as well compare Tom Brady. A 6th round back up thrust into a starting role due to Drew Bledsoe injury

Brees and Manning were established QBs. They are not even in the same realm of comparison. They were also free agents.

    Warner wasn’t traded for.

Well now you’re arguing semantics. I wasn’t talking specifics on how a player was acquired. I was speaking broadly, in terms of, “there was once a QB who played on this team, then went to another team, and had success”.

In those terms, the comparison fits, and fits quite well.

Taylor reminds me much more of David Garrard which is why I want no part of him

Nice David Garrard reference lol. I see what you’re saying too. Totally agree.

I say maybe Byron Leftwichy as well?

Janeane Garofalo is not a starting NFL QB. Being on the Patriots bench does not automatically make people good QB’s.
