IceKeymasterNo one? It’s 4 football guys discussing how they’d build the Browns. It’s like what we do here every day without all the douchebaggery.

ShooterModeratorI tried to read it this morning before work but it was long. I’ll get back to it.

DawgstyleParticipantSame. Care to give us a brief synopsis?

soupParticipantI read it last night. They sound somewhat like us. For all purposes at this point this would be my basic plan:
Draft
1. Myles Garrett. You can never have too many pass rushers for rotation.
12. Malik Hooker. We need a ballhawk safety desperately. He fits the bill.
33. Best C or T available. Unless a solid QB prospect falls out.
65. Run stuffing DT
Free agency. Mid level guys. We need corners a safety and OL.
Resign Pryor and Collins. Extend Kirksey, Bitonio (screw bad luck injured 2 years) Decastro and Pouncey for the Steelers were the same way.
I’m probably missing a guy or 2 to extend.
I wouldn’t touch Jimmy G with a 10 foot pole.

DawgstyleParticipantI’m obviously on board with Garrett #1 overall. I’d happily swap out Hooker for Adams or Peppers, but I agree with Safety at #12. I think they’re all future Pro Bowlers (though I think Peppers will be the most dominant). I think I’ve beaten the drum loud enough for Mahomes II (a QB) at 33 the last couple of weeks and I would have no issue with the best C or T available if he wasn’t there. Shy of the run stuffing DT (I did my draft prior to the addition of Williams, so I think that is certainly justified now), I completely agree. I wouldn’t be against CBs Marlon Humphries or Teez Tabor if there is an early run on safeties and Hooker/Adams/Peppers are gone.
Look, I’ve no love for Michigan (Ann Arbor is a whore), but Peppers has the inner pain and drive that translates into drive. You’ve seen his highlights on Sports Center and YouTube, now take a look into this kid’s struggle:

soupParticipantI have this odd feeling Peppers is going to be a major NFL bust. No rhyme or reason behind it.

It’s because you’re a sour puss.

I concur.
He’s a fantastic, electric return man. Outside of that………I have to be honest, he doesn’t really do anything. I never understood all the hype about him. He’s neither a safety or a corner, and not particularly good at either. Some are talking about him as if he was/is like Tyron Mathieu and wow, that is waaaay off base from what I saw this past year. I don’t get the hype, and think the biggest thing he’ll contribute to is the avg NFL career being 3 years.

DawgstyleParticipantWhile I think that Peppers lacks the elite ball hawking skills of Hooker (despite the fact that Ann Arbor is a whore, see what I did there?), I think his football I.Q., speed, tackling and coverage ability will make him a star at the next level as a Strong Saftey (in my mind Hooker projects to Free Safety). Don’t sleep on his football I.Q. either, especially with Gregg Williams as our defensive coordinator.
Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown said of Peppers “We (did) a lot of different stuff (with Peppers),” Brown added. “Sometimes it (was) criminal. There’s a lot of different concepts this guy had to learn and he just (handled) it with ease.”
His speed is going to be another huge asset. While it remains to be seen if he’ll matches his coach’s expectation of a 4.3 40 time, it’s obvious from his highlights as a ddefender and kick returner that the kid can flat out fly.
Additionally, he averaged 6 tackles a game (72 over 12 games), 39 of which were solo (54.17%). Compared to Malik Hooker who averaged 5.69 tackles a game (74 over 13 games), 43 of which were solo (58.11%). Peppers had a forced fumble and an interception, while Hooker had no forced fumbles and 7 INTs. Perhaps the more fitting comparison is LSU’s Jamal Adams, who averaged 6.33 tackles per game (76 over 12 games), 42 of which were solo (55.26%). Adams, like Peppers, also recorded 1 INT and 1 forced fumble.
Does Peppers have the best numbers in the group? No, but he’s damn close, this in spite of being the the most electric kick and punt returner in College football and lining up as a LB, CB, FS and SS in every regular season game. Said Coach Brown; “(With Peppers) you don’t have to substitute to get it done. You just make the call and then all of a sudden he’s over there or he’s over here. The flexibility that he gives you is the ability to play multiple positions, but he’s not leaving the field. So the offense can’t say ‘oh, they subbed Peppers and this guy came in so this means (they’re running this or that.)”. Not only do I think this is the kind of guy that Williams wants, I think it’s the kind of guy Williams can develop into a perennial all pro.
Situations matter. Dak Prescott as a Brown probably doesn’t make the Pro Bowl. But I think Jabril Peppers, in Cleveland with Gregg Williams is a match made in heaven.

soupParticipantI’ll take he guy with 7 takeaways that shores up the back end of the defense at FS. In a scheme like Williams – the idea is to pressure to create sacks or turnovers. Give me the ball hawk every day of the week – as an FYi – I HATE OSU. LOATHE THEM. I’m the farthest thing from a homer possible. The biggest BS thing the NCAA has ever done was put OSU in the playoff over PSU – who actually won the conference and beat OSU – but more importantly – won the conference.
All that said – Hooker is the guy i’d personally prefer. To me, Peppers is going to be just like Mccafery will be and Tebow was – phoenominal for the college game – but a castoff in the NFL.

If given the choice between the two, I’d take Hooker as well. I don’t think Hooker makes it to 12 though. Adams might and I think Peppers will. I get the uncertainty that comes with the “tweener” role, I do. I just don’t think it’s going to be an issue. He has the physical attributes of an elite Strong Safety and an insane football I.Q., his production was inline with the best safeties in college and I think he’s a much better athlete than Hooker or Adams. I don’t think this is a case of “looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane”.
Time will tell though. I think the turnovers Hooker creates makes him more valuable at this point in their careers. Hooker is a ball hawk and he’s not a liability against the run either. If we don’t screw the pooch and draft a QB #1, we’re going to get a LOT better on defense.
