For being an aggressive D that “forces turnovers” he sure as shit didn’t create them. And yes, he had vastly more talent than Horton had to work with. LA was 23rd in the NFL

The guy is living off his Redskins days from over a decade ago an 1 fluke season of takeaways with the Saints. I call it a fluke because that’s what it was. Something outside of the norm.
The dude didn’t even get average results from 3 #1 picks combined on a DL.
Talk is cheap. I don’t give 4 fucks about what he says. His track record is average to less than average overall.

Do me a favor, Soup…explain how much better Horton’s track record has been. Minus last year, since the comparison was already made.
You don’t fire a coordinator after 1 year. Again, if this was a guy like Crennel then I’m not as angry. But firing a guy you consider garbage for a guy who’s less than average is just dumb. Again, look at Williams numbers with the advantage of 3 1st round picks. Look at what people claim he is and look at his numbers. He’s living off 2005.
He’s not what you believe he is.

Here’s my take- Horton was what was available when he was picked as coordinator last year. Leftovers, the only coach that would come here, etc. So Hue gives him a shot. See if he can get those players playing good football. And the end result was what we saw…nearly the worst in the league in every category.
So now, entering year two, Hue sees what’s on paper, he’s watched how Horton coaches these men, and he apparently doesn’t like what he sees. So he has a hard choice to make- does he give him another year to fix what was wrong (including how the players have been coached), or does he replace him with someone who has established himself as a coordinator who has coached some pretty good defenses, have players that love to play for him, and is known for getting the most out of his players?
Now normally, I would agree with you. You don’t fire a coach in their first year. But when said coach was the only guy willing to try, and then delivered shit…yes, there is a serious lack of talent. And yes, Danny Shelton is in his 3rd year with his 3rd coordinator. But if the coach sees that his staff members are having trouble reaching the players, you replace that staff member with someone who has a history of doing just that…reaching players. And you nip it in the bud.
Like I said before…I don’t believe this was a “heads gotta roll” situation. I think that the head coach saw something in Horton that he didn’t like. Couple that with how the numbers added up, and this is the end result.
And when it comes to Williams taking over, if he bumps us to 20th overall, I’d be happy with that. And the more that number drops, the happier I’d be. But make no mistake, if he gets shown the door after a piss-poor showing at the end of next season, I would have no tears in my eye.
And that’s why we are where we are. He coached Shelton, who liked like a bust year 1, into one of the top NT in the game. Kirksey played great, for the first few weeks we had an excellent run D. Then Poyer, our only safety that wouldn’t fail geometry, got hurt. We no longer had a half decent safety on the roster. We had none that could take a proper angle to fill a hole.
If I give you shit and tell you to make chocolate cake you will finish last in the cake tasting contest guaranteed.
