KeymasterYou’re going to start hearing that name a lot. The Browns just hired David Lee as their new QB coach. Lee was QB coach of the Bills for the past 2 seasons.
If Taylor is actually any good, no one will know better than Lee. Also if he stinks, Lee will be able to let us know.

ParticipantYou gotta admit, Soup, our options are pretty fucking limited in terms of getting a signal caller.
Doesn’t mean I don’t agree with you. Fuck you for being right.

ParticipantEither of his past 2 seasons would easily be the best season we’ve had since Andersons fluke ’07.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we could do a lot worse than Tyrod Taylor. Would I give up a high pick and sign him to a long term contract? He’ll no. But a late pick or a FA contract that’s not too steep? Absolutely.

That’s definitely my preference. At 1 or 12, I don’t care which. But, if we’re hoping to get one at 12 and we have only Kessler and RG3 on the roster on draft day, you can forgot about it, because some team is gonna do simple math and snatch our guy at 11.

ParticipantDeshaun Watson will be our first pick. I’m fully convinced of this.

ParticipantI tend to think it’ll be Trubitsky over Watson, by I definitely think we go QB first.

If you don’t already have a sig bet on your convictions, I would gladly offer one up. For however long you want.
I don’t see it. Garrett, almost guaranteed. Definitely won’t be a quarterback.

ParticipantSo what if we signed him and draft a QB with pick #12?
Doesn’t seem like a scenario anyone has envisioned so far. I’d be good with it, provided we ended up with at least an average season.
Because, let’s face it, that would be spectacular, all things considered.
February 11, 2017 at 7:49 pm #7605BillWunkle
ParticipantWhy should we want a QB – if he becomes available – that holds onto the football (on average) longer than any QB in the league before throwing a pass? One more thing . . . why should we want a QB that doesn’t throw his receivers open, but rather waits until after his receiver gets open? If you make a move to acquire Tyrod Taylor, that’s EXACTLY what you’ll get.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

ModeratorI don’t disagree Crusty ol’ Curmudgeon, but I do lean a bit towards Dawg E. Dawg’s take: His play would be the best that we’ve seen at the position in a decade.
Not exactly a glowing comparison granted, because it’s been a shithole, but…..he’s been a Pro-Bowl alternate the last two seasons. It’s hard to argue that it wouldn’t be an upgrade.
The real question is, is would it be a wanted/needed/worthwhile upgrade?
Meh. My answer to that would be “maybe” at best. He doesn’t suck, ya know. I mean, dude has some skills. And that’s far better than anything we’ve had here in a long time. We could do a lot worse, ya know. That said, is he a “the guy” candidate? I really don’t think so. And if that’s the case then, really why bother?
But if we’re only going to rent a guy for a couple years because we draft a guy at 12 to groom….I’d be okay with it. He’s sure as shit better than RG3. We’d at least be competitive. It’s been a long time since this town has seen an 8-8 or 9-7 season. He could get us that.

ParticipantI pretty much agree with you Shooter. There’s an article on NFL.com now predicti the landing spots for various abs that could change teams this offseason, and it has the Browns getting Taylor. Just Taylor.
If that were to happen, I’d be IRATE. Higher on Taylor than most, but in no way shape or form do I want us to come out of this offseason with only him. This is the year we need to fix the QB position long term, and like shooter said, that’s not Taylor.
What I’m saying is I don’t hate Taylor, but when you look at all the guys we could end up with and you give us Taylor, it’s not too enticing.
February 13, 2017 at 6:14 pm #7612DawgPoundDude
ParticipantWell, it’s pretty simple to me…no matter who attaches him to Cleveland, if he does leave Buffalo, it’s because they aren’t offering him a payday. And if we want him, he’s going to want to be paid. Judging by our recent history of signing QBs that have been released, we aren’t going to offer they kind of contract he wants…unless Hue is really enamored with this guy. I just don’t see it happening.

ParticipantOh god no the only advantage to getting him is he’d only cost us a contract since BUFF will likely cut him thus not costing us draft picks but please god no more mobile running QB’s. we need a good old fashioned pocket passer. Taylor is nothing more than an RG3 light.

ParticipantRemembered discussing Tyrod last year, and figured I’d dig up this necropost so everybody could see their thoughts about him before we signed him.
Also, I wanted to point out that I completely called the Chiefs jumping us and taking Mahomes before our pick at 12. Yup, patting myself on the back.
