I voted B, due to things usually trending badly when I vote A.

And seriously, I hope Houston sucks balls next year…meaning they likely win the Super Bowl.

    C. Passing on Hooker and Allen for Peppers was an awful mistake. Could’ve been an A+ draft

Hooker vs Peppers is debatable. Hooker is more FS and Peppers is more SS, but you could argue which is better. Once you throw in an extra 1st round pick with Peppers it’s a no-brainer.

I’m giving it a B. I’m out of superlatives for Garret, he’s just a monster.

Peppers is a question. As I’ve stated already, he has the potential to be a force. He could also be a bust. The browns definitely valued athleticism and versatility. I’m fine with that but admittedly there is risk involved. If he maximizes all that potential he could quickly turn this into an A+. If he busts, clearly it will join the pantheon of Cleveland Browns 1st round failures. I don’t think that will be the case though, and he adds playmaking ability at a position desperate for talent.

I love the Njoku pick. He’s raw, but he’s freakish athletically (I’m seeing a pattern here). He’s a huge target, and he’ll be a 20-year-old rookie. He needs to work on his blocking, but he instantly gives us a Red Zone weapon (where he thrived last year) and again, has potential to be a game-changer. I just hope he doesn’t like motorcycles.

There have been plenty of drafts where the Browns have me me say “oh what the fuck are these clowns doing”. This is not one of them. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Gave it a B. The diluted test sample for Peppers I find very worrisome. If Peppers didn’t have this it would be an A.

Gave it a D. Don’t like the Peppers pick. A (most likely) late 1st rounder for dropping 13 spots isn’t a good enough trade.

But, most importantly, we did not get a QB. I honestly think the FO was all in for Mahomes and the Chiefs just beat them to the punch. Improving the rest of the team won’t matter if we don’t have a QB, and if we improve we’ll be drafting that much lower in the draft, just making it harder to get a qb next year.

We had Watson and let him go for Peppers and a 20ish pick next year. Not impressed.

Not one QB had a 1st round grade. They didn’t like any of them.

    I agree with Soup.

Taking a QB when you need one is one thing, reaching for one is another. I wasn’t enamored with any of the QB’s coming out this year. If they had taken one, I would have preferred Trubisky, but even he is a project. Mahomes is super a project. Neither one of them are Day 1 starters, and have to sit for at least year. Watson, again, so risky with him. Plays great under the big lights and all, but man what a turnover machine, and he really struggled with decision making. There’s a huge difference between the ACC and AFC north, questionable decision making is not trait you want on your resume. As it stands now, the Browns have 2 1sts and 3 2nds in next years draft. They can get whoever they want. If there is a guy that emerges Andrew Luck style, or who just blows everyone away, they can trade all of that and get their guy.

The QB’s this year were all very questionable at best. It’s prudent for an organization to pass on a guy if they say “well, I mean, maybe he could be good”. That’s not a ringing endorsement, and we’ve made that mistake too many times now. You want a QB where everyone goes “I want THAT guy” without hesitation. That guy wasn’t there. Build your team, establish a defense, and wait it out.

I understand the frustration, I feel it too, and at some point the Browns have to stop kicking the can down the road and get a QB, but you don’t do it just to do it. That’s bad team building, and we know what happens when you have that process. I don’t want EJ Manuel, I want Aaron Rodgers. The Browns are biding their time, acquiring the resources, and building their team so that when that guy is available, they get him and can plug and play. It’s a mind-numbing process, but I’m proud of the Browns showing the discipline to be able to do it.

As for Peppers, I think you’re going to be surprised by what he can bring to the table.

I’m hope I’m wrong on Peppers. I’m probably being a bit hard on him because of TSUN, but also because the last prospect we drafted because of their amazing versatility was Cameron Erving, and we know how that’s going.

But in reality, I think they wanted Trubisky and Mahomes. I really do. And I think they just got schooled, which is why I gave them such a low grade. It’s more about Mahomes than Trubisky, because Garrett over Mitch, I get that. But, I think we just got outplayed on Mahomes. We’ll never know because according to every GM ever they pick exactly the guy they wanted the most and never lose out on a player.

I will say, I think we played the Steelers with the Njoku pick. I almost gaurantee he would’ve gone there had we not grabbed him.

Dude, we wanted no parts of Trubisky. None. Nada. Zilch. I posed this question in a different thread with no answer. Give me the successful QBS with less than 15 college starts. Akili Smith? Blaine Gabbert? Analytics knocks him out immediately.

Mahomes has a big arm and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. No thanks. Didn’t get schooled by anyone.

Again, all 3 QBs had 2nd round grades. None had a 1st round grade. Peppers I’m all in with you on, but not taking a QB was smart.

I said what I THOUGHT. What you have given me is your opinion. That’s it, nothing more. Pure opinion. I’m not going to bother looking up facts to refute your OPINION, because they don’t exist. Because it’s an opinion.

As for analytics, I’m really considering writing up an article on this, but I’m really sick of people saying “analytics says this..” or that or whatever. We have no idea what analytics they are using. You can use one set of statistics to prove that player x is heads and tails better than player y, and a different set to prove that y is better than x. Without knowing what they’re using, it’s impossible to say what’s what.

The really funny thing is, if you want to attempt an analytics based argument, you would have to look at Cody Kessler. That should give you an idea of what they’re looking for. I’d say it’s a high completion percentage guy, like a Trubisky or a Mahomes. There picks last year also showed they like stat stuffers. Like Mahomes. And Hue came out and said he wanted Goff last year, so obviously he’s not worried about the air raid, which is one of the biggest knocks on Mahomes.
