Pay attention – the news is already in my “Case to start Kizer” thread. Oh, and, remember when I aid no matter what Kizer will start game 1? Job is being handed to him? (Though after seeing all 3 he earned it. But it was headed this way anyway).

Kizer did not earn it. All 3 QB’s sucked, but the other 2 guys sucked more. Kizer was also rife with mistakes but was the best of the guys who sucked.

I really feel that Kizer is going to suck way more when he goes up against something other than a pure vanilla defense too.

You made the great point that he has training wheels on. So does the defense he’s faced so far. There’s always the chance that it just clicks and he has a Russel Wilson type rookie year, but more than likely it’s going to be a Jared Goff looking experience.

I don’t know what good that does.

Did you think I was serious and cared? Lol. If I see an opportunity to give you shit I have no choice but to take it. I mean, come on, read the sig you branded me with.

Rookies make mistakes. But the fact is he outplayed them. That’s what it means when other “suck more.”

It all hinges now on how Hue calls plays and the burden he puts on Kizer. I expect Pittsburgh to get multiple sacks and interceptions week 1. But as long as Kizer improves throughout the season it’ll make more sense for him to start now rather than a year from now to fail like Quinn or Manziel

    Of course not.

That’s certainly part of it. How Hue manages his learning curve is important, but it’s not the sum of everything, there are many other parts of his curve that will have nothing to do with the playbook. In fact, I’d argue that learning the playbook is probably going to be the easiest part for him. Reading defenses, adjusting to the speed of the NFL, making progressions, feeling the pocket, getting rid of the ball quickly, not taking the sacks…….those things are what will make or break him. Slimming the play book down and limiting the plays that are run isn’t going to do anything to get him to understand how to read a coverage, or not take a sack. Same with decision making. It’s hard to control his decision making through what plays are run.

I’m going to be completely in your corner and become the biggest advocate of run the ball, run the ball, run the ball some more, and when you’re done running the ball, run it again”. It’s the only real way to protect him. If they trot Kizer out there and have him throwing 30+ times a game, we’re going to be in real bad shape and it’s going to be ugly to watch.

Exactly. That’s what’s in Hue. Have him be Big Been in his first two years. Limit his ability to make mistakes in that regard

Agreed. Big Ben was exactly who I thought of as well. The Steelers handled him perfectly. They waited until about halfway through his 2nd year and then let him go, and you saw how it went for them. If we roll with Kizer, a lot of pressure is going to be on Crow and Duke, along with the O-line in the run game. I think our defense is going to be good enough to keep us in games, if we can control the ball and the clock, and keep Kizer under the 20 passes mark, I think we can be competitive. We’re still only going to win 5 or 6 games, but I’ll be happy as hell if it plays out that way.

And that’s why I’d rather have Osweiler in there taking all the punishment then sub Kizer in for some Kizer special packages that he would know inside and out and be able to run in his sleep.

I honestly hate subbing in QBs for a couple plays at a time. It throws off the timing a rhythm of the offense, and it’s not long enough to really benefit the QBs coming in.

Play, can you imagine if Kizer comes in, moves the chains, goes out, and Brock throws a pick? The crowd at first energy would want Osweiler hung.

I think that approach just creates potential problems with no real benefit, just my opinion.

I dunno, I mean I know why you’re saying what you’re saying, and I get the point, but I just don’t know. I’ve made the case for starting either one. I don’t know which way I’m more compelled to, I’m just gonna wait for the browns to make that call and then watch with the rest of you. I’m

then sub Kizer in for some Kizer special packages that he would know inside and out and be able to run in his sleep.

This I can say I’m not in favor of. I think it’s both disruptive and predictable. It’s like a Wildcat formation. It was cool for about 3 minutes, and then everyone on defense knew exactly what was coming and destroyed it. I’m pretty black and white in this regard as I feel either he starts, or he sits. Not some weird, quasi, pseudo-sometimes playing at random times throughout a game thing. I feel it sends a funky message to the team. “Okay guys, listen yeah we’re trying to win this game right now and stuff, but we need to work on something for a few minutes and try this out. When we’re done we’ll get back to trying to win this. I know it’s not an ideal time but, just go with us on this okay?”

I don’t see a lot of guys thrilled with that.
