ParticipantYou know who I’m talking about. That guy that’s technically a part of the Browns but hasn’t played since 1992. The guy that was once ridiculously talented but nobody knows how his skills have held up over a 20 year hiatus from football. That guy that keeps tantalizing us with returns only to get re suspended at the last second. You know who.
Well, there’s a rumor floating around the twittersphere and dark corners of the web that he’s under the impression that he’ll be reinstated prior to the Browns Sept. 24th game against the colts, which aligns with when he’ll finish his most recent stint in rehab.
Now, I’m not saying these rumors are true. I was in “believe it when I see it” mode 3 suspensions ago. But, assuming they are true, what do you do if you’re Sashi Brown? Cut him? Is he worth anything at all in a trade (I don’t think he is)? If you keep him on the roster, who’s place does he take?
Curious about your guys thoughts and if anybody thinks there’s any substance to the rumor.

ParticipantYou keep him on the roster. If he still hasn’t talent left – the immediate boost he gives is unmatched if his head is right.
Freedom!!!

ModeratorJosh Gordon!! You’re talking about Josh Gordon!!!
Lol. Yeah I’ve heard the rumblings too. Tim Montgomery is the latest one to say that he’s going to be reinstated, he’s been working with him for the last 8 months or so. He said that he would and should have been reinstated in May, but the reason he wasn’t was because he missed drug tests from the NFL because he didn’t answer his phone.
He said JJosh has been clean for a long time now.
As far as what to do with him, you keep him. There’s no point in letting him go now. If he truly has turned the corner and gotten his life back together, the dude is still only 26 and has stupid talent, you don’t just cut that loose. You make it an “us or nobody” situation. If Gordon fails any other test his career is over forever, so you may as well have him on your roster instead of seeing him on someone else’s. His impact on the field is indisputable, and his ability to make a young QB’s life easier can’t be overstated.
Keep him. Welcome him back. Cross your fingers and hope that he has indeed grown up and turned his life around.

ParticipantSo, when I typed the first post up, I was convinced we should cut his ass. Last year was the last straw, and it’s time to cut bait. Then I looked at the WRs we have on the roster.
Holy mother of god, do we need help. I knew it was a position of weekness, I knew Coates would easily make the Browns roster while he would’ve struggled to make Pittsburghs, but I didnt realize HOW bad we are. Britt, Coleman, and Louis are the only guys on the roster I wouldn’t immediately cut for Gordon. Nobody but Britt has more than 3 years experience in the league, and only Coates even has 3 years. We really can’t justify cutting him with the current state of the position.

KeymasterYou guys are reacting emotionally. Gordon has no value. He is worth nothing in trade. He hasn’t even applied for reinstatement. His buddy is doing him a solid by saying nice things about him in the media, but Gordon is done in the NFL.

ParticipantI don’t think anyone’s reacting emotionally. Nobody said he has any trade value. As for reinstatement, he applied in May obviously. Reapplying, I don’t know if that application is confidential or not. I couldn’t say one way or the other, which is why I said all I heard was a rumor.
Really the question is just is he worth a roster spot over a Reggie Davis or a Kasen Williams or a Sammie Coates. I think he is because who the F is Reggie Davis?

KeymasterI would say no, not worth a roster spot.

ModeratorGordon has no value
I have to say that this is simply not true. While you need to be on the field to have value (and I see your point there), when he is one the field, he’s a beast.
He hasn’t even applied for reinstatement.
That’s just a formality. He can apply as soon as he’s done in rehab on the 21st and Goodell could conceivably rule on it immediately. He could be out on the 21st and reinstated the 22nd, making him eligible to go to Berea.
Gordon is done in the NFL.
Don’t be so sure about that. Gordon was reinstated last year and was set to play after serving his suspension. He voluntarily left the Browns to enter rehab, and that prompted Goodell to rescind his reinstatement. If Gordon has satisfied Goodell in terms of behavior, drug testing, and proper handling of his personal life, don’t be surprised in the least if Goodell gives him a final chance and let’s him come back to the Browns.
I would say no, not worth a roster spot.
And I would really, really disagree with you on this one. If he’s cleared to play he absolutely is worth a roster spot. Even after missing as much time as he has and not being in game shape he’s instantly the best receiver in the building the moment he opens the front door, and that point just can’t be argued.

ParticipantHmmm, Corey Colemans out for 8 weeks….if only there were SOMETHING the Browns could do at WR….
FYI, this week sometime is when the rumored reinstating is going to happen. I usually don’t pay attention to this kind of rumor, but when they attach a specific date, it makes me think.
September 19, 2017 at 12:33 pm #9496the dude
ParticipantSupposedly he served his suspension right?
Hue Jackson is a loser.
September 19, 2017 at 12:52 pm #9498Dawg E. Dawg
ParticipantHe served a 4 game suspension, then checked into rehab and was indefinitely suspended because of going to rehab, which many use as a means of avoiding a drug test.
Realistically, all options are on the table. He could be reinstated in time for Sunday’s game as rumors suggest (highly unlikely), he could be reinstated with an additional suspension. His application for reinstatement could be denied (again), or he may not even apply for reinstatement (unlikely, based on comments from him and people who have supposedly spoken with him).
But, if you want a short answer, yes, he served his suspension, lol.

ModeratorWe will be starting 3-4 recievers next week that would barely qualify for practice squad rosters on just about any other team in the league.
If the NFL green lights him I don’t give a shit ow long he’s been gone, you give him a uniform and tell him to get out there.

ParticipantI mean fuck it…at the very least, get him out there blocking for the run game, or passes to other people. Bonus points if he actually plays football.
We already wasted a roster spot on Britt. What’s another one?
