ParticipantWe also have 11 picks in both drafts. And think about this: even if we don’t get our QB of the future this year, we will have a very solid foundation in place for when he’s finally under center. This, boys, is how you build a team.
Now, to hit on those picks. April is going to be very interesting.

ParticipantGarrett at #1 is a no brainer, if we can’t trade for Jimmy G then take a QB at 12 or use some capital to move up ahead of the jets so long as Hue and Sashi agree that the guy they like is the one for them waiting till 18′ might not be an option. take CB and safety in 2nd and 3rd rounds.

And therein lies the rub, and the point of uneasiness in the pit of every Browns fans stomach.
If these guys go out there and draft Brandon Weeden, Trent Richardson, Justin Gilbert, Cam Erving, Barkevious Mingo, and Johnny Manziel again, it’s not gonna matter how many picks we have.
We absolutely have to hit on these picks. I sure as hell hope these guys know how to do that, because watching wasted pick after wasted pick year after year will keep us in a perpetual state of 1-15.

ParticipantYou know, we always seem to have our best success with second or third round guys (not always the case). That’s all well and good, but for once, we need a fucking can’t miss, sure thing player…or two.
And yeah, the front office are the guys doing most of the legwork with the scouting and whatnot, but I hope Jackson and Williams get to chime in on the type of players that fit what we want to do. Then the analytics stuff can kick in.
For once, I hope we get it right. Last season sucked, but it did so necessarily. Nobody wants to go through that shit again.

ParticipantWell, we’ve already seen that Sashi and company are well capable of stockpiling draft picks. What remains to be seen is their ability to draft well once they get those picks. Last year’s draft was pretty much a trial run as far as I’m concerned. We’ll just have to wait and see how well they can draft with their staff in place for an entire season.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

I think that’s a solid point. Last years draft is still too early to truly grade, and obviously hampered by the injury to Corey Coleman that derailed his year, but it has some promise. Ogbah, Nassib and Joe Shobert look to be solid if as yet unspectacular, but I like their ceilings. Coleman has yet to really show if he was worth the 1st round grade, but I have hope for him. I know I liked the pick when we made it, so hopefully it pays off.
But, to stay on your point here, all of those picks were made in what can best be described as a hasty manner considering the amount of time they had as a group beforehand. I think they did well considering the circumstances. Now, being that they have had an entire season together, yes, I’m interested in seeing what they are going to do. What direction they’re going. How they are going to go about their business.
I’m gonna call it now, there are going to be times in this draft where this Front Office makes us all go “WHAT THE FUCK!!??”.
I have no idea when, nor how many times, but it’s gonna ahppen. This group has shown so far that keeping the status quo and doing things the way that others do, and others before them have done, is pretty much out the fucking window. That makes it both exciting and terrifying at the same time. They take risks, and boldly. The Osweiler trade proves that. The Collins trade and signing shows that. But I think that everything they’re doing is very, very calculated (Is that a pun? I guess it kinda is?), and they have a vision, direction, and plan that they are absolutely following and sticking to. And let’s be honest here, that kind of leadership is a breath of fresh air and I’m loving it. We don’t do that here. We make shit up as we go, swing wildly, and generally look like complete idiots the entire time.
Now that these guys have that year together, and they’ve spent that year formulating their strategy………let’s dance man. I’m ready.

ParticipantHere’s the thing. I’ve see a lot of guys running down their draft last year. I don’t get that at all. Was it a legendary draft netting multiple future HOF? No, not by any means. But, as Shooter already mentioned, Nassib ans Ogbah look promising. And, there are 3 moves they made that specifically give me hope:
1.) Drafting Corey Coleman: Laquon Treadwell, Josh Doctson, and Will Fuller got most of the hype going in, but the Browns picked their guy, not a guy with a bunch of hype. Although it’s too soon to say, I think Coleman is better than those other guys. He’s kind of the anti Manziel pick.
2.) picking Ogbah: not because he’s that great, but they had the first pick in the second round, and they had all day to trade it and didn’t. Shows me they don’t trade down just to trade down, and they have a system in place.
3.) Kessler. Kind of the same as Coleman. Yeah, they could have had Dak, but most other regimes would’ve picked Connor Cook over Kessler.
They have their system and it shows promise. It hasn’t resulted in all stars et, but There’s reason for hope.
