Personally, I’m far more in favor of the McCarron/QB in top 4 route than the Kirk Cousins route.
This would be the best case scenario now that Alex Smith is out of the picture.
February 15, 2018 at 7:57 pm #11076DawgPoundDudeParticipantIf we sign him, we’re gonna need a strong running game. And a decent WR. Without those things, he either isn’t going to sign, or we won’t be going very far with him.

Freedom!!!

Mmmm, debatable. Barkley at 1 still leaves us with either Allen, Rosen or Darnold.
February 16, 2018 at 8:00 am #11079BillWunkleParticipantSigning AJ McCarron would certainly be a more salary cap friendly move than going balls to the wall for Kirk Cousins. Just because the Browns have over 100 million in cap space, it doesn’t mean that spending all or even most of it would be the wise move. And if the Browns are indeed able to sign McCarron, they’ll still need to draft a QB in the first round . . . whether at #1, #4 or trading back into found one to get a Lamar Jackson or some other QB.
Whoever the Browns draft at QB, they need to finally get it right. Now the question is, “Out of this year’s crop, who is going to be their guy?” The so-called “pundits” are split. Some say Sam Darnold, some Josh Rosen, some Josh Allen and others Baker Mayfield. All of these young quarterbacks have their pluses and minuses. The only added bonus in selecting Mayfield would be watching ESPN850 Really Big Show co-host Aaron Goldhammer make good on his promise to eat poop live on the show. That snotty-nosed punk deserves to be knocked off his self-appointed pedestal.
Quite frankly, whoever the Browns draft to be their QB of the future, I’m hoping that the only in-game action he sees in 2018 is in the pre-season. So if you sign McCarron, he’s starting for the duration of the entire 2018 season – barring injury . . . which leaves us with the uncertainty of future first time ballot Hall of Fame let tackle Joe Thomas. My guess is that he’s had enough of the NFL game and would like to move on to pursue career options that aren’t quite so physically demanding.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

Try working with him lol. He’s twice the arrogant little prick off the air as he is on it.
February 16, 2018 at 6:08 pm #11084DawgPoundDudeParticipantWait, you worked with the guy…and his ass remains unkicked?
What the fuck dude?

I did. When I worked at WKNR.
He was an asshole, and then he fired me.
Over the phone.
and his ass remains unkicked?
It wasn’t for lack of effort lol. The threat is still in play and he knows that if I ever see him again he’s going to do a triple axel, just without the ice skates.
February 17, 2018 at 1:13 pm #11087DawgPoundDudeParticipantWow, what a bitch move. I knew you were in radio and whatnot, but wasn’t aware that fuckstick was involved in screwing you over. My condolences…though it seems you’ve bounced back.
ESPN is making a ton of cost-cutting moves of late. Hopefully he gets his. Over the phone. Class act, that guy.
February 21, 2018 at 8:33 pm #11091mike barnesParticipantI’m fine with A.J just so we pick our guy at #1 then grab bpa at #4.
February 22, 2018 at 7:30 pm #11096DawgSoldierParticipantBesides youth why is MCCARRON a better option than MCCOWN?
Both have experiance in Hue’s offence so….

Both have experiance in Hue’s offence so….Because McCarron is right there where if he plays well, he could be the guy, but if not, he’d be easy to move on from. He’s also somebody who fans would actually want to watch for a season.
McCown is a brittle placeholder. If he comes back, it’d go the same way Ty Detmer and Jake Delhomme went. Fan pressure and injuries would have the new guy starting by week 5.

See I think McCown is a better bridge QB because he has more wisdom to share and I am not sure if he’s not better than AJ. Just saying. Also the Brittle thing is a bit over blown being he just came off his career best year. Bottom line IMO Josh makes the new QB better more than AJ does IMO. As for on the field it such a small sample size with AJ nobody really knows if he can play at this level as a starter.

February 23, 2018 at 6:49 am #11100Dawg E. DawgParticipantWith the staff we have, I’m not worried about the qb imparting wisdom on the new guy. I’m worried about the qb preparing like a pro, and showing the new guy what nfl preparation and habits look like. Both McCown and McCarrpn got the bill on that regard.
Come to think of it though, since Haley’s the guy on offense now, both QBs May have a bit of a learingimg curve versus stepping right into Hues offense.
February 23, 2018 at 8:11 am #11101DawgSoldierParticipantvery fair point on the Haley bit. Though I give a leg up on McCown since he has bee in so many systems.

True. After I started thinking more about the Haley aspect, McCarron may not have a big enough arm for his liking. Haley likes to take his deep shots, and that’s not McCarron best attribute. McCown has a better deep ball, for sure.
