I left the website poll about Mayfield’s career up for almost two years for one single reason.
Laziness.
But maybe we should revisit it. Even throughout all of last season I was convinced that Mayfield wasn’t the problem and he was just a victim of his coaching and playbook. After this Sunday I’m starting to doubt. When he had nothing to lose in his first season he was phenomenal but now he is… not.
September 14, 2020 at 12:20 pm #19271Dawg E. DawgParticipantI’m waiting til after Thursday’s game to reassess. I agree though, that yesterday’s game had me questioning his future.
But, he was going against Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey, two of the best in the league. He looked good when he targeted everybody but Odell. If he doesn’t look a lot better on Thursday…

Now couple that with a moron having him drop back 40 times in a new offense rather than run the ball and use play action and throw 20 times and you get a disaster. That’s the recipe.
Then throw in being told constantly “we have to get OBJ involved” rather than, “read coverage throw to the open spot.”
All in all it boils down to horrid coaching yet again.
Rivera is who they should’ve immediately grabbed. After that, the only choice was Saleh. Not another group of “throw as much as possible” guys because that won’t ever work

Build off the ground game, work in some middle of the field passes to the tight ends, and suddenly OBJ will be open downfield for the occasional big gain. Stick with that and Baker can get back on track.
I’m a little worried about his height, though. Tipped passes and a seeming inability to see from the pocket, second year in a row.

Precisely why I’ve always loathed the “#1 WR” BS. There’s no need for it. It’s the reason he should be traded ASAP.

Hue Jackson is a loser.
September 14, 2020 at 8:50 pm #19288IceKeymasterI hope I’m overreacting based on a QB in his 4th offense in 3 seasons who had no offseason and was playing against a top 5 defense in the league.
I guess we’ll find out on Thursday.

I guess we’ll find out on Thursday. He’ll fail again because Stefanski doesn’t know how to hand the ball off. He’ll throw 40 times. Last start he’ll see barring Keenum injury will be week 3 where he’ll be benched at halftime. Traded in the off-season for a mid round pick to NE

September 15, 2020 at 1:20 am #19291MDP Sack AttackParticipantI don’t really care whether our terrible team ruined Mayfield’s career or whether he just didn’t have the skills to be a good NFL quarterback. I just want to be wrong about thinking he’s not very good. But this is basically his “do it or don’t” year because if he sucks this season we’ll be ruining another highly routes prospect next year.
September 16, 2020 at 4:30 pm #19303soupParticipantMayfield: 18-29 (62%) to those not named OBJ
3-10 (30%) to OBJ
Quit designing force plays. It was 10-6 and we were on Balt 34. 4:40 left in half 1. Stefanski decided he had to force a first pass to OBJ because he wasn’t involved yet so he called the most useless play in football, a WR screen. That drive got to 3rd and 41.

Come one dude…. You can’t say things like this. It makes you look dumb. You literally are picking 2 completely different qb styles.
Let me just clear this up before you give me some soupstistic.
Baker Mayfield will never run the option.
Hue Jackson is a loser.
