BILL WUNKLE’S FINAL 2020 NFL MOCK DRAFT

You are looking live at the city that never sleeps and the new home of the Raiders – Las Vegas, Nevada. Fast forward to reality. This is The Padded Cell and the nation is in mandatory quarantine as we’re in the midst of a global pandemic. However, the 2020 NFL draft will begin as scheduled. That means it is time for Bill Wunkle’s final 2020 NFL mock draft. The rules are as follows:

• This draft will consist of one round, but Browns picks in the following rounds will be listed.
• Not only are trades allowed, but they are encouraged.
• Comments will be listed for Browns picks and when there’s a trade.

And now, on with the show.

ROUND ONE

1. Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow – QB – LSU
2. Washington Redskins: Chase Young – DE – Ohio State
3. Miami Dolphins: Jedrick Wills –OT – Alabama

Comments: The Dolphins send picks #18 and #26 plus #56 to the Detroit Lions so that they can move ahead of the New York Giants and land the offensive lineman they covet.

4. New York Giants: Tristan Wirfs – OT – Iowa

5. Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa – QB – Alabama

6. Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert – QB – Oregon

7. Carolina Panthers: Isaiah Simmons – LB/S – Clemson

8. Arizona Cardinals: Mekhi Becton – OT – Louisville

9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Derrick Brown – DT – Auburn

10. Denver Broncos: Jeff Okudah – CB – Ohio State

Comments: The Browns wanted Tristan Wirfs or Mekhi Becton, so they exercise plan B and practice the analytical approach to the draft and exchange pick #10 overall for #15 and #46. Personally, I would take Andrew Thomas here, plug him in at left tackle and get on with the season.

11. New York Jets: CeeDee Lamb – WR – Oklahoma

12. Las Vegas Raiders: Jerry Jeudy – WR – Alabama

13. San Francisco 49ers: Henry Ruggs III – WR – Alabama

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Andrew Thomas – OT – Georgia

15. Minnesota Vikings: K’Lavon Chaisson – DE – LSU

Comments: Andrew Berry takes a page from Eric Mangini and trades down more than one time in the first round. In exchange for moving up to #15, Minnesota gives Cleveland picks #22 and #56.

16. Atlanta Falcons: CJ Henderson – CB – LSU

17. Dallas Cowboys: Xavier McKinney – S – Alabama

18. Detroit Lions: Javon Kinlaw – DT – South Carolina

Comments: While the Lions need a cornerback, they find a real need with value in Kinlaw.

19. Las Vegas Raiders: Kristian Fulton – CB – LSU

20. Jacksonville Jaguars: Grant Delpit – S – LSU

21. Philadelphia Eagles: Tee Higgins – WR – Clemson

22. Cleveland Browns: Kenneth Murray – LB – Oklahoma

Comments: The Browns address a glaring need at the linebacker position and decide to address the offensive left tackle position either later in the draft or with a veteran player.

23. New England Patriots: Jordan Love – QB – Utah State

24. New Orleans Saints: Trevon Diggs – CB – Alabama

25. Minnesota Vikings: Yetur Gross-Matos – DE – Penn State

26. Detroit Lions: AJ Terrell – CB – Clemson

Comments: The Lions improve their front four with Kinlaw and get their replacement for Darius Slade in Terrell.

27. Seattle Seahawks: AJ Epenesa – DE – Iowa

28. Baltimore Ravens: Patrick Queen – LB – LSU

29. Tennessee Titans: Josh Jones – OT – Houston

30. Green Bay Packers: Justin Jefferson – WR – LSU

OTHER BROWNS SELECTIONS

41. Austin Jackson – OT – USC

Comments: The Browns manage to get an athletic left tackle with great character in round two.

46. Jeremy Chinn – S – Southern Illinois

Comments: I’m higher on this kid than many, but I’ve seen this kid play and he’s a player.

56. Damon Arnette – CB – Ohio State

Comments: While not a glaring need, this is a sound selection.

74. Jonathan Greenard – DE – Florida

Comments: The Browns need a pass rusher, and Greenard can fill the role of a rotational pass rusher in year one.

97. Malik Harrison – LB – Ohio State

Comments: Yes, I know we took a linebacker in round one, but we need more than one linebacker.

115. Quez Watkins – WR – Southern Mississippi

Comments: I look at the film on this kid, and I cannot believe where he’s ranked on their boards because he reminds me so much of one Odell Beckham Jr.

187. Khalil Davis – DT – Nebraska

Comments: Not a real need, but this would be a good developmental pick.

244. Binjimen Victor – WR – Ohio State

Comments: I like his size in RED ZONE and goal to go situations.

First off, VERY interesting draft. We’ve seen all your other mocks which were trade-free which gives us a good look at your big board, this one shows us more what your wish list for the Browns is.

My hidden gem guy is Cleveland. I think we still have a glaring need at RG and he’d also be able to slide into a tackle position in case of an injury. What do you think about him? With your trades down you got us about 20 2nd round picks…..

What’ll really be interesting is if the Browns draft Tristan Wirfs and make the trade for Trent Williams. That will give us Wirfs to be our RG for the next decade.

I wouldn’t be a big fan of that. We have Conklin and he’s very solid.

So we draft a RT and are going to move him to LT. No issue for me since Tua was left handed so RT was his blindside.

I do realize most had him rated as the number 1 tackle. We have have a pretty good LG Center and RT and now we just drafted what should be a pretty good LT so RG is the weakest spot on the line but since we have a pretty good RT that should help ease pressure off the RG.

With the top three picks going chalk, I was convinced in my own mind that Wills was going off the board at #4 to the Giants. What surprised me even more was the fact that three of the top four O-linemen were still on the board. With that said, I am THRILLED that we got the most technically sound offensive tackle in the draft. The thing that made Joe Thomas so great was the fact that he was such a technician. Athletic ability will only take you so far in this league because you have to be able to use proper technique.

I think that, if he can remain healthy, Jedrick Wills Jr. will be the starting left tackle for the Cleveland Browns for the next 10-15 years. Now the Browns need to solidify the O-line depth – particularly up the middle. They may already have a piece or two in place, but we just don’t know it yet. Teller still needs to prove that he can beat out Drew Forbes for the starting RG position, but I have to say that the Browns starting O-line looks a lot better now than what it did a year ago.
