BROWNS AT 2018 HALF-WAY MARK
Well, the Browns have finally reached the half-way mark in the 2018 NFL season. A lot of changes have taken place since in Cleveland since John Dorsey took over as General Manager towards the end of the 2017 NFL season. Changes in the front office and coaching staff were among the first ones, but I think the players got the message that a new sheriff was in town when Dorsey released unproductive veteran WR Kenny Britt.
Since the end of the 2017 season, the Browns roster was overhauled to the point that nearly 60% of the roster was comprised of new players. Some were acquired via the draft, while others were free agent signings and waiver wire acquisitions. Still others were traded away for other players and/or draft picks; the most notable being former second round pick quarterback DeShone Kizer to Green Bay in exchange for defensive back Damarious Randall.
So now we’re eight games into the 2018 schedule; and our beloved Brownies have amassed a record of 2-5-1 overall, 1-1-1 in the AFC North, 2-1-1 at home and 0-4 on the road. They’ve lost their last 3 games and 4 of their last five. While the roster is much improved from last year (and, quite frankly, it didn’t take much to accomplish that); the end result hasn’t been nearly as positive as what this team and the fans had hoped that it would be. Right now, the Browns are on pace for a 2018 season record of 4-10-2. Will that be enough progress for owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam to stay the course? If so, then that would also project head coach Hue Jackson’s coaching record with the Browns to 5-41-2.
With all that said, let’s play the schedule game . . .
November 4th – KANSAS CITY . . . LOSS
November 11th – ATLANTA . . . LOSS
November 18th – BYE . . . this is the Browns best shot at getting another tie.
November 25th – at CINCINNATI . . . LOSS
December 2nd – at HOUSTON . . . LOSS
December 9th – CAROLINA . . .LOSS
December 15th – at DENVER . . . LOSS
December 23rd – CINCINNATI . . . WIN
December 30th – at BALTIMORE . . . LOSS
So that makes Bill Wunkle’s projection of the 2018 Cleveland Browns season record to 4-12-1. Why don’t I have the Browns winning a single road game this season? The answer is quite simple. They’ve already blown their best chances for a road win against New Orleans, Oakland and Tampa Bay respectively. Why should I trust them do get it done on the road when they’ve lacked the ability to finish strong in close games on the road? Right now, their best chances of getting a road win are at either Denver or Cincinnati. The Browns next four home games are against Kansas City, Atlanta, Carolina and Cincinnati. The only reason I’m calling for the Browns to beat Cincinnati is because it’s in Cleveland.
So where do we go from here?
That seems to be the $64 question. Fans and media alike are calling for coach Jackson’s head on a platter. If Hue is the sacrificial lamb, then when does that move happen . . . during the bye week or after the regular season is over? With whom do you replace him? Do they make Todd Haley or Gregg Williams the interim head coach at the bye week? Do they try to lure Lincoln Riley away from the University of Oklahoma? More questions and answers to come as the 2018 NFL season continues.

Browns are +11 in turnover margin with a 2-5-1 record thru 8 weeks.
Since 2006: 38 teams w +8 turnover margin or better thru 8 wks, none had a losing record…
Since 1975: 71 teams w +11 turnover margin or better thru 8 wks, none had a losing record…
except the 2018 Browns.

@Billwunkle called it again. You probably submitted this article just as Haslam was calling Hue into his office.

I was on my way to help a friend with some remodeling on his house in Tallmadge and was listening to Uncle Rizzy and the liberal pansy-ass metrosexual Jew on ESPN850 when there was “breaking news”. My cell phone then blew up within minutes of that.
