The Browns announced today that they were awarded Terrelle Pryor off waivers. Pryor is coming off a mostly forgettable NFL career at quarterback, but after he was cut by the Bengals last week he went public with his desire to play receiver. He has all the physical traits to be successful; his athletic ability isn’t in question and his 6’4″ 230 pound frame would make him tough to cover.

We don’t know what his contract situation is, but the Browns are out nothing by giving him a shot. If he makes the roster then we’ve made a great waiver pick. If he doesn’t make it, do we really care?

Pryor also made some waives by publicly posting some videos of his Bengals workout on twitter. The Bengals are very upset about that which is only a plus for Pryor in my book.

His measurable features and athletic ability are off the charts for a receiver/return man. He’s a size/strength match-up problem for corners/safeties and a speed match-up problem for linebackers. I was in favor of this move a couple years ago. What have the Browns got to lose with this move? The answer is absolutely nothing. This is a win-win situation. Does he make the team? As weak as this roster is at that position, it’s possible . . . maybe even plausible.

Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

I doubt he makes the roster. This feels more like a way to get some insight into what the Bengals are planning. Asking a 26 year old QB to take his first ever snaps at a completely new position is a hail Mary. This is a low risk, low reward move.

I like the signing. So in November when we are done with our 3rd string qb, we don’t have to get on the wire and find a no-name guy – we can toss a wide receiver in who has only seen one pass all season – so freshness will be key here folks.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

It’s not even low risk, it’s no risk.

If he sucks, we cut him. If he makes the team, he gets a veteran minimum contract at best.

He is athletic, ya never know. But his odds of making the team are slim.

Will he make the team? It is possible. He would add an element to the offense because you would have to watch for end arounds or passes from him. Just one more thing the defense would have to loo at.

The guy was a QB. He knows what everyone on offense is doing. Running routes isn’t rocket science. The more he does, the better he will get.

Training camp will tell a lot about his potential.

I think he makes the roster. We are definitely NOT loaded at either QB or WR. The offense needs playmakers. Pryor’s athleticism and knowledge as a QB can be used by a creative OC to make plays. Kordell Stewart is the obvious comparison.

Bottomline is that we do not have enough spark in our offense…not enough to force a defense into thinking that are passing offense is a threat. Somehow, some way, they have to get the opposing defense to not put 11 in the box (note: acknowledged over exaggeration) to stop the run. Because of this, if he can make plays, he’ll have a roster spot. I’ll take him over Travis Benjamin at this point.
