Browns Sign QB Drew Stanton To Two-Year Deal

Stanton was a backup on the Lions during No. 1 pick Matthew Stafford’s rookie year and a backup behind No. 1 pick Andrew Luck in Indy during his rookie year. This is becoming a specialty of his. [a href=”https://t.co/dKKQgoSCnt”]https://t.co/dKKQgoSCnt[/a][/p]— Ryan McCrystal

Hmmm Physical talent wise Luck’s athletism and Staffards arm is a good way to discribe Allen. So Stanton could be a spot on mentor for him.

This is a little puzzling to me. But, I just heard on the Dan patrick show that the Browns like Josh Allen, but are pretending to like Darnold because the Giants like Darnold. It’s silly season, yes, but with nothing else to talk about, lets got down the “what if that’s true” hole for a second.

My theory (today’s theory, it changes a couple times a week): the Jets want Darnold, and tried to trade up to one from 6 to get him. The Browns want Allen, but also like Darnold and know that other teams covet him. They’re open to trading the No. 1 pick, but only if they can still get Allen (which, they don’t think they’d be able to at 6).

Sooo, I’m thinking the Browns will draft Darnold, and the Jets will take Allen, and they’ll swap afterwords and the Jets will throw in some picks.

Allen is raw, so Stanton was signed to keep Allen off the field this year, because the Browns starter ALWAYS get injured, and to be the backup next year after Tyrod leaves in free agency.

    Just a theory.

Any chance he has ever worked with Chris Weinke?

Keep in mind, we only have Tyrod tied up for this season. Stanton is signed for 2 years. It looks like a mentor role to me, whether Taylor does well and/or sticks around.

I’d call this a solid signing.
