BROWNS SIGN RGIII
It’s official. The Cleveland Browns have signed free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III. Reports are that it’s a two-year deal. This almost certainly means the soon departure of Josh McCown.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!
March 24, 2016 at 1:08 pm #4561DawgPoundDudeParticipantYuppers, pretty much what I expected here.
The only saving grace here in my opinion is the coach. If anybody can get something out of this guy, it’s Hue. But considering our history, you’ll excuse me if I’m not feeling overly optimistic.
I give this about a 25% chance to work.

I didn’t think that was too bad…..considering…..but I don’t know salaries – where does this sit among other starting qbs in the nfl?
he has to be the starting qb right?
Hue Jackson is a loser.

he has to be the starting qb right?Supposedly. Word is that McCown is being shopped, and that this move in no way impacts the draft. Others are saying that we may keep McCown to serve as a mentor for RG III as well as whoever we draft at 2 (or 32).
I wouldn’t expect much movement for a few days, regardless. Though personally, I’d like to see McCown stay on…and maybe join the coaching staff for the 2017 season. 😛
Although if Griffin and Gordon can recreate their Baylor days together…that might be interesting. But I’ve learned a long time ago that hope is dangerous when the word “Browns” is attached.
March 24, 2016 at 3:29 pm #4565MDP Sack AttackParticipantThis is our insurance policy against the Titans trying to extort us into swapping picks with the threat of another team leapfrogging us for “our guy”. Now we can say “we already have a QB on our roster” without breaking into tears.

1. It’s only a two year deal and we have so much cap room that it will not effect the roster one bit.we won’t be anywhere close to cap max in the next 2 years.
2. It’s a no loss move. If he turns out to be great then it was a steal. If he sucks, who cares?
3. The fact that it’s only a 2 year deal tells me they are drafting a QB early as they should. In no way does a 2 year deal solidify him as a starter.
4. There’s absolutely no downside to this signing. We have the #2 pick in the draft. Worst case scenerio we get #1 pick next year and grab a QB. Hence there being no downside to this signing.
Freedom!!!
March 24, 2016 at 6:16 pm #4567IceKeymasterThis is great news.
It’s not great because RG3 is a great player or a great teammate, he’s not. At least not yet.
It’s great news because the contract is laughable. Basically $3.5mil per year for 2 years with escalators. IT’S LESS THAN WE PAID A WR WHO CAUGHT 5 FOOTBALLS. That’s progress.
It’s great because that is completely backup money. He’s not coming here to resurrect his career, he’s coming here to build a new career and fight for a starting job or be a backup.
It’s great because the team came out and said the signing of RG3 will not affect their draft plans at all. That means no one is counting on him starting.
It’s great because teams do their best to sign a backup whose skillset is similar to the starter. The top 3 QB’s in this draft are all good gaining yards with their feet.
It’s great because we’re buying low for once. This guy’s stock could not be any lower. He’s like f’n Johnny Manziel but AFTER all the stupid crap is over with and he’s decided to turn his life around. He’s hungry.March 24, 2016 at 8:42 pm #4568MavParticipantI’m as happy as I’ve been in a while. Four years later, I finally got the guy I wanted.
