Participant18 games. You keep throwing around 2015 and 2016. He played a total of 18 games in those 2 years because he has admittedly struggled with injuries. But 18 games, many of them he was playing through groin injuries.
I’m arguing about the previous 63 games where he played very very well. 63 games.

ShooterModeratorThe Steelers secondary is woefully thin. Watch where Haden ends up.
It’s almost like I know what I’m talking about.
Neither shooter or soup have a clue how he really is.
You’re right. It’s not like I was ever a member of the Cleveland sports media. It’s not like I still have friends in the Cleveland sports media. It’s not like I know people who personally see Joe Haden in camp every single day.
Oh wait, I was. And I do, and I do. What could I possibly know?
So the Steelers got better with the 87th rated cover DB in the NFL? And our pass D will be worse?
Yes, and yes.
If anyone expects Haden to play well they are fucking morons.
I’ll take any bet you want. I’m far from a moron, and I absolutely think Haden will play well for the Steelers. In fact, I’ll all but guarantee that he returns to Pro-Bowl form.

the dudeParticipantSoups argument is the sealers are stupid and the browns are smart because of moves and salary cap garbage stats that have nothing to do with on the field play…. Yet the Clowns haven’t been in the playoffs in 15 years and the stools have several superbowls with multiple coaches and multiple hof ers.
Thank soup you have convinced us all

IceKeymasterWe are NOT better by cutting Haden. That’s just silly. He just didn’t justify the contract he had which paid him like a top 3 DB. He refused to reduce it and is now being paid like a good DB with injury issues.

He’s making $9 million/year vs the $11 million we would’ve paid him. We have $54837 million in cap space. Is there any justifiable reason to be concerned with overpaying him $2 million? J use overpaying loosely, because we don’t know what other offers Joe had. Rumor is he took less than the max offer to play with the steelers.
We made the team worse to save $2 million while we spent $16 million on Osweiler and a 2nd round pick. It makes no sense, whatsoever.

the dudeParticipantHey Shooter, I also have friends in Cleveland sports media. And they don’t know how his surgeries went besides him telling everyone they went fine.

The Browns reportedly offered him a restructure that was $7 million this year and he denied it. He clearly wanted out.
As for the player himself we will agree to disagree.
You and others believe his speed is back and therefore his play will be back.
I believe, due to the front surgeries, his speed is gone and his play will be on par with the last 2 years.
We will find out as the year progresses who is right.

The “he clearly wanted out” part, I don’t see that at all. He’s playing for a subpar team, as he has his whole career, and they have oodles of cap space available, and the ask him to take a pay cut? I’d say no too.
It’d be different if it was a “hey we want to sign player X to make a run at the Super Bowl, and we need the cap space, so how bout we restructure some things.” But , that’s not what it is. It’s “hey, we have fat stacks of cash, and we think we’re giving you too much of it, so we d like to make our stacks fatter.”
He never asked for a release or trade, never complained, he just didn’t want a pay cut. That’s not him wanting out, that’s him wanting what was promised.
August 31, 2017 at 10:22 am #9267
soupParticipantNo, but he knew it was pay cut, trade or cut. Two of his friends play in Pittsburgh. Former Florida teammates. Pouncey and Gilbert.
I say he wanted out, but did it quietly. When you deny a pay cut then take the same money on the new team you can deduce he wanted out.
No, I don’t blame him. And you will be hard pressed to find a better teammate or off field role model.

IceKeymasterI’d be willing to bet Gilbert doesn’t make the week 1 roster.

Wrong Gilbert – Marcus Gilbert. OL.

Marcus Gilbert? Their starting RT??? Do you know something I don’t? Or were you thinking Soup was referring to Justin Gilbert?
August 31, 2017 at 12:16 pm #9271
soupParticipantHe was thinking I meant Justin Gilbert. FYI, what I hear around here is some good inside info. I let you guys know Haden was on his way to Charlotte to sign — saw an article today that he signed yesterday at the team hotel in Charlotte…

It’s like the fucking Twilight Zone. Really surreal.
The problem is you are always wrong…
And we still have to hear your dumb ass talk about it.He worked hard for that sig. But mark my words- if even the smallest sliver of fact comes out of the broad strokes, he will beat everyone over the head with it.
FYI, do you know what else we haven’t had for a while, something that I’m sure contributed to Haden not having as good of numbers as in the past? NO PASS RUSH. Blake Bortles could shred a defense if there’s no fear of a sack, no matter who’s in the secondary. You can’t put all that shit on Haden, and now that he’s playing for Pitt…
I don’t like it. Not at all.
August 31, 2017 at 2:11 pm #9281
ShooterModeratorMainly because you now have to hope I’m right about him. And if I’m right, that will make your head explode
No, not at all. You have no idea what you’re talking about, as usual. I already know I’m right, and THAT, is going to make my head explode. Watching Haden have a monster year in Pittsburgh, and simultaneously making us much worse and them much better by going there has me dry heaving.
He worked hard for that sig.
A man has never given a better effort than anything in the history of the universe than Soup did in acquiring the rights to that tagline lol.

ShooterModeratorIf you like we can make another bet about Haden and see if we can add a 2nd line?
Want to add a 3rd one over Coleman?
A 4th over the defense?
August 31, 2017 at 3:14 pm #9287
the dudeParticipant@dpd that has been my point all along. We were a 1-15 team who has a miracle win. Everyone was bad last year. I wouldn’t work my ass off either if we were that bad…. Then he was playing with an injury that required 2 surgeries. The dline last year may have been the worst in the browns history.
Haden is just lucky to get out of town without a staph infection.
