Ok, while an absolute steal in the 6th round (though he may have gone undrafted), I dunno about this one. If his character concerns are enough to get him released, then we just completely wasted a pick here.
I’ve looked, and the stories seem to be all over the place. Believe what you will, but it sounds like this lady wasn’t giving up until he fought back.
Here’s one of the stories I read. Others seem to be backing up what the woman says, but he is refusing to settle out of court (his lawyer’s advice), so that tells me he thinks he can win.Still…as low a risk as it is, this is the first pick that worries me.
April 29, 2017 at 6:30 pm #8597DawgSoldierParticipantit’s a cheap lotto ticket with a good pay out.
This DT is BETTER than the 1st one they drafted.
I have no issue gambling on talent then cutting the guy if he is convicted.

April 29, 2017 at 6:51 pm #8599ShooterModeratorThe only thing I don’t like is that it’s a gamble. With as many holes as this team has in the dam, gambling and potentially wasting picks is not what we need.
Just gonna hope for the best on this one.
April 30, 2017 at 9:54 am #8603Dawg E. DawgParticipantI’m all right with taking him where they did. He was projected to be picked 2nd roundish before the alleged incident. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out in his court case, because he’s not settling. Bouncer says he never threw a punch, for what that’s worth.
End of the day, it’s a mitigated risk, because it’s a 6th round pick, and we have a ton of picks. We had 14 draft picks make the roster last year. That’s not sustainable year in and year out, and it’s not good to have that much turnover. Making as many picks as the browns are making, the guys can’t all make the roster. So, you might as well take some high risk high reward guys because an average 6th round pick will get cut in a numbers game.
If it comes out that he’s guilty, I’m all for cutting his ass. But, based on what we know so far, seems like its a good risk to take.
April 30, 2017 at 11:10 am #8607IceKeymasterIt’s like taking a late chance on a talented guy coming off an injury.
I still don’t like it and I’m not thrilled that after such a spectacular draft THIS is the pick everyone’s gonna be talking about.

For his sake and the Browns. I hope he is PROVEN not only not guilty but INNOCENT. If he is guilty throw the pick away and then throw the SoB in a hole and then throw the hole away.

May 1, 2017 at 9:21 am #8614soupParticipantSo wait, people like Peppers and Kizer because they are “boom or bust” and don’t like Brantley because he cost us a 6th round pick? Seriously? A shot at a 2nd round talent in round 6 when the majority of 6th rounders get cut anyway? REALLY?!?!?!
An athlete in round 1 who will be our SS and play in the box whose college career includes 1 int, 1 FF and 3 sacks and you guys are saying he’s the next Palamalu .
A QB that got BENCHED in his final year in college that can’t read a D. A guy who FAILED 6 out of 6 times to tie or win in Q4 when given the opportunity.
You are okay with a 1st and 2nd on those guys but pissed a 6th round pick with a 2nd round grade gets taken because we might cut the 6th round pick?????
Brown and orange insanity at its finest.

May 1, 2017 at 9:31 am #8616IceKeymaster@Soup I don’t get mad at guys for lack of talent. I get mad at guys who have lack of effort or lack of morals. I hate Manziel. I hate Gilbert. I don’t hate Erving, I actually kind of pity him. He’s a good guy, a hard worker, he just sucks.
I don’t know enough about Brantley’s situation to pass judgement but unless she’s holding a deadly weapon it’s never right to hit a girl. Girls have the advantage that they can hit a guy whenever they want and not get hit back. Guys have the advantage that when girls hit us it doesn’t hurt, it’s more of a mild annoyance.

Some stories say she wasn’t stopping until he hit her (possibly she was trying to get a lawsuit for the money). Some stories say he didn’t even through a punch (possibly Brantley paid somebody off to say that though).
Then there’s the fact that he wasn’t charged right away. Seems weird.
Point is, I give him the benefit of the doubt. There’s way too much “guilty until proven innnocent” thinking in society today. If it comes out that he did it, cut his ass. But if not? He’s actually the victim (which nobody thinks about at all) and we got him for a steal.

Brown and orange insanity at its finest.Yes Soup, we like the draft, even though the drafting of Kizer completely dismantled you.
And to answer your question about being ok with it…I’m perfectly fine with taking a risk on a 2nd round prospect in the 6th round…and if he pans out, all the better. Where I have an issue is that he may not even get a chance to compete (with good reason). Other than that, DS pretty much nailed it- it’s like using a 6th rounder on a lottery ticket.
Still, I have a MAJOR problem with men that put hands on a woman, especially when he’s 3 times her body weight. And truth be told, I hope that his version of events is what transpired. If he pushed her away to keep himself from getting continually punched and kicked at, then I have no problem.
If it’s beyond that, then we just wiped our ass and flushed a draft pick on a scumbag that deserves to be strung up by his balls.
I’d rather take a 2nd round flyer on a potentially good QB that we didn’t trade anything for. But that’s just me.

Yes, seriously.
(That was much easier than I initially anticipated).
May 1, 2017 at 5:37 pm #8637BillWunkleParticipantLet the facts come out at the appropriate time and made a judgement from there. If the allegations are indeed true, then he’s history and the Browns just wasted a 6th round pick – no big loss. If they’re false, then the Browns got the steal of the draft. Time will work this out, one way or another.
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!
May 6, 2017 at 11:53 am #8669ShooterModeratorFrom reports that I have been reading, it’s looking more and more like Brantley is going to be cleared.
1st off, she wasn’t knocked out. She didn’t lose any teeth, and she didn’t even recieve medical attention.
It appears, that she wasn’t even punched. Allegedly, she punched him in the mouth, and he pushed her away from him, and that was it. She was also a former girlfriend, she showed up with her friends where he was at, and taunted him.
All of this of course, “allegedly”.
May 6, 2017 at 9:41 pm #8670Dawg E. DawgParticipantThe last bit I saw on him said there was video of him outside the bar with him and his friends and her and her friends leaving.
The video doesn’t include the altercation, but it does show one of her friends saying to him “sorry for all of this.” Doesn’t sound like something somebody would say if their friend had just had her tooth knocked out.
Not solid evidence, and I haven’t seen the video, but still it’s looking more and more to me like Brantley was the victim.
May 6, 2017 at 10:22 pm #8671ShooterModeratorYeah, I saw that part too.
May 9, 2017 at 10:46 pm #8672the dudeParticipantI have always been one to say innocent until proven guilty – too bad the public eye and the court system sometimes disagree with me.
Debatable first round talent even so.
if anything I hope people look at him and say to themselves don’t put yourself in these situations. for all we know this woman could have went bonkers and he didn’t even say a single thing….plenty of crazy people out there and he defended himself…..or he could be an aggressive piece of shit who belittles people because of his strength….I find when booze is involved, people think they should pick on the biggest guy in the room and they will get away with it. never understood the mentality, male or female, but no one wins.
Hue Jackson is a loser.
