Mike McCarthy – like his experience. Dislike that he calls his own plays and may be averse to the run
Urban Meyer – hate this rumor. Amazing college coach, not an NFL guy and has health problems
Josh McDaniels – really hate this thought. We won’t run and he wants to run everything.
Doug Marrone – we offered him the job and he turned us down for the Bills. He just got fired from 2 garbage years in Jacksonville. No thanks.
Add more rumors as you hear them

December 30, 2019 at 9:27 am #17647IceKeymasterIf we’re giving interviews to anyone currently on the staff, my first choice is Mike Priefer (special teams coach). Look at the amazing improvement our special teams made under him in just 1 year. As a graduate of the Naval academy you know discipline and attention to detail are among his strengths. He’s been interviewed a few times on Cleveland Browns Daily and the guy comes across humble, honest, and extremely focused. He’s a leader of men. Plus he’s from Cleveland.
Even if he isn’t the HC, we have to do whatever we can to retain him. He’s the most important current member of the staff IMO.

December 30, 2019 at 10:11 am #17653Dawg E. DawgParticipantYeah, I’m not interested in McDaniels. He was a disaster in Denver, and one of the only people on the planet that thought Tebow was a first round pick. Then he bent the colts over. Pass.
The guy I want is Rivera, but he’s reportedly going to sign with Washington. We can’t get him over the Redskins? Sad.
I agree with Soups assessment of Urban. He’s not a long term answer. Though it would be funny as hell to see him try to get a long with the QB that planted a flag right in his face in primetime.Nobody else gets me excited, and I have zero faith in the Browns to get this right. The only guy I would kind of like is Matt Campbell, solely because of he’s a former Toledo coach. But I haven’t seen him linked too much to the Browns.
December 30, 2019 at 10:21 am #17654DawgSoldierParticipantWish We could get Kyle Shannahan back……….
The offensive pieces on hand would work so much better in a ZBS/WCO in my opinion.
Wonder if Gary Kubiak health would allow???
Maybe Brian Schottenheimer???
Mike Sherman???

December 30, 2019 at 10:54 am #17656MDP Sack AttackParticipantI hate the idea of a rookie head coach calling their own plays. There is a huge learning curve, even for experienced coordinators, pertaining to managing every aspect of a game from the sidelines. They cannot focus on any one element.
A 12 year veteran like McCarthy, however, is more than capable of calling their own plays. They know exactly what needs done at all times, and likely have a system in place for delegating all responsibilities amongst coaches.

December 30, 2019 at 1:44 pm #17664soupParticipantAnd the losing ways will continue with the back asswards Haslam not in prison…
Per Adam Schefter:
The Giants and Browns, who have fired their head coaches within the past 24 hours, still could be making more changes, per league sources. The new head coach in each city is expected to have input on whether the general managers there stay or go. Front office situations fluid.
So this means the Haslam’s, not the GM, will be hiring the head coach. Look for McDaniels or McCarthy to get the job and be GM as well as head coach. then look for a new set up in 2022.

I saw all that as well. Leave it to Jimmy and Dee to do it ass-backwards. McCarthy, though, might want to work with Dorsey. McDaniels would want to bring in a guy like Caserio and have all the control he could get.

Depodesta was an economics major in college, and played college baseball AND football. He’s a numbers guy, more than a baseball guy, which makes him useful in a sport with a salary cap.
More importantly, it’s been reported/rumored he wanted Sean McDermott and was vetoed when the Browns signed Hue, and he wanted Kevin Stefanski and was vetoed for Kitchens. I don’t think he’s the problem.

Haslam is willing to let Dorsey, who helped build Packers, built the Chiefs and gave us the most talent we’ve had in 20 years back – but Depodesta stays no matter what.

Dorsey is flat out an actual football guy. We are letting that walk in favor of the analytics that drove the Sashi Brown draftsAh, now I see. I hadn’t heard the Depodesta was untouchable. Weird. Also seems weird that there’s no consistency between HC’s that they’re looking at. Offense, defense. Young, old. Experienced, inexperienced. College, NFL. Are the casting a wife net, or just throwing the proverbial shit at the wall and seeing what sticks? I don’t know, but like I said before, what sticks will absolutely be shit, because it’s Jimmy.
Oh, and Brian Daboll is Joe Thomas’s recommendation, for what that’s worth. Obviously he’s not the end all, be all, but he spoke very highly of Kyle Shanahan and Matt Leflour(sp?) before this season. For what it’s worth.
December 30, 2019 at 11:37 pm #17678IceKeymasterI hope we go through a lengthy interview process and eventually hire McDaniels.
