Game 3 of the preseason is meant to be a dress rehearsal for the season. All the starters are in for most of the first half so you can actually gauge how well your team might perform. If that’s the case then the one big takeaway we have from this game is that our team is much better than the Bucs, despite the fact that we’re using the QB they threw out and they’re using the one they got with the first overall pick. McCown didn’t look like an all-star by any means, but he drove the ship well enough to put some of our fears to rest.
The defense was swarming largely due to the fact that for the first time our defensive backfield was healthy. Having Williams, Haden, Whitner, and Gipson covering their receivers gave our defensive line time to put some real pressure on the rookie QB and five different defenders recorded sacks. We held them in check both running and passing the ball. Their offense was frustrated in every way.
On special teams Travis Benjamin broke his first punt return for a very impressive TD. Thaddeus Lewis also impressed at QB once McCown sat down.
It wasn’t all good news though. Pierre Desir who has all but locked up the 3rd CB role went out due to a concussion. Also rookie RB Duke Johnson who has struggled with injuries all preseason went down with a concussion after a huge hit.

Defense is not going to be an issue this year, just how much they are on the field.
Hue Jackson is a loser.

Hue Jackson is a loser.
