Thoughts on Edwards (expected to be available)? Or would you prefer to keep Wilks? Or would you prefer somebody else?

The only thing I didn’t like about Wilks was that we always played zone in the backfield. We’ve got 2 of the best young CB’s in the game who have excelled at man coverage their whole life.

Keeping Wilks is a distinct possibility. Wilks was going to be Stefanski DC if he got the job last year as well

I’m fine with Wilks, honestly, we just need more depth on the line and in the backfield.

With the two starting corners the Browns have in Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams, I think that Steve Wilks did them a great disservice by having them play mostly zone coverage. Losing Myles Garrett to a season ending suspension didn’t help matters, neither did the absence of Olivier Vernon to injury for a good portion of the season. And when Vernon was able to suit up, he was pretty much the invisible man on defense when you needed him to show up the most. That said, losing to the Bungles in Cincinnati the way they did is unpardonable. I’m confident that George Edwards would be an adequate DC, but are we looking for someone that’s merely adequate?

Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

There were a lot of injuries on defense last year.
Greedy Williams is extremely over rated. The guy isn’t a good cover guy at this point in his career. I think Kitchens thrust him into the starting lineup instead of making him earn it. I believe Mitchell should have been starting and give Greedy time to develop.
Maybe the defensive backfield was bad because we didn’t put enough pressure on the QB and especially after Miles Garrett was indefinitely suspended.
One thing any DC needs to do is teach the damn defense how to tackle.

I agree with a lot of that BF4L. Money Mitchell is a starting CB in this league. Greedy has him beat in pure athletic ability but Mitchell seems to always be in good position.

Also yes the defense really got bad once we were down to like 5 healthy D linemen, 2 of whom we signed off the street just to fill our roster. And by the end of the year I believe they both had starts.
