I would hope coaching and management gives him a fair shot this year even if he comes outs the first handful games and doesn’t perform. If by game 7 there is zero chance, then it is time to put someone else in just to finish the season and start working on the drawing board again.
Hue Jackson is a loser.

And that one sentence sums up how pathetic our team is.
May 30, 2015 at 2:32 pm #1482IceKeymasterI voted 8-12, leaning closer to 8. I just don’t think this fanbase has the patience to watch McCown for more than half a season before the Soups of the world start sending emails and it starts raining snowballs at home games.

McCown become ineffective which will then force the staff to again see what Manziel has. Except this time Manziel will be dropped like a rock after the season is over. Project Manziel will be officially over.
I am hoping I am wrong. I wouldn’t mind McCown making us a playoff contender thus relegating Manziel to the bench and/or Manziel looks like a true starting QB. I’m just not sold that we are gearing our offense for either scenario to play out.
June 6, 2015 at 1:55 pm #1581ShooterModeratorI just think that there are far too many factors right now to even attempt to answer this question.
If I’m being asked how many I hope he can play? That’s easy. All of them. We spent a 1st rounder on he guy, he was electric in college, and has the talent/potential to be a successful QB in the mold of Russel Wilson with the possibility of even surpassing that. I don’t even know how I would react to such a thing because it seems like a unicorn to all of us.
What are the odds that potential is realized? I have no idea. No idea how to even put a number on it.
Where’s his head at? Is he dedicated to football? Is his focus right? Is his preparation right? Are his priorities in line? Is he motivated, or in “fuck-it” mode?
Where’s he at physically? Is he in football shape after such a layoff? Is he ready to legitimately compete for the job?
What’s the mood and tone of the locker room? Is there a support stricture, or he is still being viewed on the sidelines of ostracism?
All of those questions lead to the most important one that there is. Does he give us the best chance to win?
I don’t think there’s really any way to know or answer that until camp starts. We have to see what his level of production is during camp, and all of the above questions, at least most of them anyway, will have answers attached to them. Then we can have discussions about how many games he’ll start. It could be 0, could be 16. Right now Johnny is a can of food with no label. We have o clue what’s inside.
Camp will be a can opener.

June 6, 2015 at 4:15 pm #1587ShooterModeratorWell I’ll say this, I think that at some point in time the Browns are going to have to play Manziel.
The simple fact of the matter is, he’s a 1st round pick, and you have to see what you have. I know we saw a glimpse, and it was atrocious, but it was 7 quarters. If you’re a 1st round pick QB, I don’t care how bad those 7 quarters were, the reality is that’s just not enough. They have to play hm. How much, how long, or when? I have no clue.
Also, when was the last time the Browns had a QB play all 16 games in a season? 1934? The point is it’s been a long damn time. McCown is 48, so you know at some point, whether through injury or suck, he’s going to have to be replaced.
So, by the mathematical certainty alone, coupled with the above realism to have to play him just out of necessity for te sake of the franchise, 1-3 is a given.
