I gave it an A-. Why not an A+? Because there was no amazing, scintillating, jaw-dropping pick, nor was there a solution to the QB issue. Honestly, I’m glad on both counts. Last year we had a very flashy draft and reached to solve the QB issue and look where it got us. Maybe the Browns needed a ‘boring’ draft. Just get a bunch of really good players to fill important positions and don’t trade away the entire draft to try ans solve that QB issue. IMO there was no solution to that issue in this draft and frankly I’m very glad we didn’t move up to try and get one of those two guys.

I still stick with an A+….One of our best drafts.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

I gave them a solid B. An A+ is reserved for a draft when it looks like the greatest of all time for us (Filling obvious needs, getting future first rd picks, AND etc.) ..which this was not.

I liked most of the picks, but I feel they waited too long to address WR and TE. No, they didn’t need to address them in the first, but I expected something in the 2nd. Considering our QB situation, I would have liked a pick that involved the name Petty or Hundley. Seemed like good value at the positions they were selected. Much like we drafted in quantity, I feel that we should have treated the QB position in the same light.

Duke Johnson may have been a great selection, but that then draws concern for me with West and Crowell. Why did they draft Duke Johnson when we had both of them? It seemed to me that the RB situation worked last year.

I liked the DB selections at the end of the draft. Their “potential” would rate them much higher than where they were drafted.

Overall, I think this draft was entirely focused on solving the rush defense. If that was the case, then I can’t wait for the draft that focuses on solving the offense. AND we better see that from this front office. Otherwise, it will seem like we are only drafting based on Pettine’s strong suit (defense.)

Here’s my opinion on those picks you questioned.
Yeah, a WR higher would have been good. So do you reach a little to fill an area of need, or do you draft a guy you had rated as a first round talent? The Browns apparently saw picks with really good value and nabbed them.
As for QB, I correctly predicted before the draft that the Browns would NOT draft a QB in the first 4 rounds. I don’t think that Hundley or Petty are the solution to our QB problem. Both of them are probably going to be backups in this league and both need a lot of time to learn to be NFL QB’s. If they came to Cleveland it would be the same old song: they’d be pressed into playing by the middle of the season and they would not be ready. They’d stink, we’d hate them and draft another one next year.
Duke Johnson is a different kind of back than West and Crowell. He is the lightning to their thunder. He’s also a hell of a pass catcher which apparently is going to be how we use our passing game this season. Lots of swing passes to the RB. If we had a WR rated as highly as Johnson, I’m sure they would have picked him there instead but just like them I didn’t really see one worthy of that spot. Plus, who is throwing the ball to him?
That’s how I imagine the Browns brass would answer your quandaries if they were being truthful about it.

This draft shows me two things. First, we aim to be a nasty defense. I really like the direction.

And on offense, since there’s more questions than answers at the QB position, it shows that we are dedicated to doing that thing Soup loves (…ok, not THAT thing!)- RUNNING THE BALL.

I absolutely love that there were no pressure picks in this draft, and shows that this group of coaches and front office staff are not just getting along, they plan to be doing this for quite some time.

A- from me. Nothing flashy, just good, back-to-basics football guys. Very sound draft.

I think it was a solid draft but not anything great so I give it a C.
