IS JOE BURROW WAVERING?
As the countdown to the 2020 NFL Draft webinar is now under two weeks, the rumors (as should be expected this late in the silly season) are starting to rekindle around former Ohio State and LSU quarterback Joe Burrow; who’s expected to be the first overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. During the off-season, Burrow is being coached by Jordan Palmer; younger brother of former Cincinnati Bengal/Oakland Raider/Arizona Cardinal Carson Palmer, who at one point threatened to retire before playing another season with the Bengals. Around the time of the combine, Burrow publicly refuted any rumors that speculated as to why he would not want to be drafted by Cincinnati.
Fast forward to yesterday, April 10th where Former Indianapolis Colt great and current sports talk show show host Pat McAfee brought up a quote that Joe Burrow made recently on The Big Podcast with Shaq . . . “I just want to get drafted to a good team, good organization that’s going to maximize my talents. I’ve won everywhere that I’ve been and I’ve never had a losing season in sports from the moment I was five years old. I just want to go somewhere I can win.”
Okay . . . so that’s the quote. Was Burrow being vague and ambiguous, or was he trying to send a subtle message to the Bengals front office? Does anyone in their right mind actually think that when Cincinnati’s brass got wind of this they instantly thought, “Well, I’m really glad that Joe wants to come here”? Hello . . . this is the Cincinnati Bengals we’re talking about, one of the worst run organizations in the entire league. We could be talking about the next NFL team to move; that’s how bad things have gotten in the Queen City.
So, if Joe is having a change of heart; what should the Bengals do? Should they draft him out of spite in an effort to show him who’s the boss? Should they trade down with Miami, who has three first round picks this year? Should they draft him and then trade him to the highest bidder in an effort to extract the absolute most from the team that trades for him?
Before we go off the deep end, I think that the Bengals need to get clarification from Burrow himself to see exactly where he stands on the matter. If he wants to be a Bengal, then they can go ahead and pick him. If he really wants to be somewhere that’s not Cincinnati, then Burrow needs to keep the matter close to the vest while the Bengals try to manipulate a trade – likely with Miami. To Joe’s credit, he’s done a lot of things very well from a PR perspective. There’s no real need for him to go John Elway or Eli Manning at this point. Those of you who are old enough to remember how things unfolded in those two draft will understand what I mean. Those of you who aren’t need to do a little research on your own time.
Back to the subject at hand . . . Is Joe Burrow trying to send a message (albeit politely) to the Cincinnati Bengals or not? I don’t know for certain, but I think he very well could be. What do you think?
Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass!

Instead of trying to win as much as possible to earn as much as possible, they try to spend as little as possible. They are probably looking to trade out of the spot and get some nice mid-1st round picks in the trade.

Hue Jackson is a loser.
April 11, 2020 at 2:56 pm #18751BrownsFan4LifeParticipantWhy would the Browns trade up to get Burrow considering how much it would cost to make that move. The Browns don’t need a QB, they need LBs and a LT. Im not sure why you would even mention the Browns except just to insult them (seems like a Soup move to me).
I would love it if another team made Cincy an offer they couldn’t refuse so Burrow wouldn’t be in the AFCN for the foreseeable future.

Silly season is upon us for sure…
