Is Josh Gordon the most talented player on the Browns? There’s no question the answer is yes. Would I want to face him in another uniform? The answer is no. So why does he exemplify what I hate about #1 WR in general and talents like him?

Starting the year without him, Hoyer was Hoyer. Going to the line and reading the defense throwing against the coverage on the proper read.

Hoyer with Gordon is now going to the line and forcing it to get Gordon involved. Taylor Gabriel, who was a major spark, is now not seeing time or the ball. On top of that we’ve become flat out obsessed with passing the football because he’s our most talented player.

Gordon – in 2 games – has been targeted 29 times with 13 catches. 29 targets. That’s 16 plays of 0 yards and 2 turnovers.

Hawkins – in roughly 11 games (missed the Cincy game and was injured part of another) has 91 targets. At this rate Gordon will get there by years end.

In short, having him back has changed the offense for the worse. It’s taken several players out of it, turned us into an exclusive passing team and taken away all the chemistry. It’s why I loathe the “#1 WR.” QB’s lose their minds with it.

This is why guys like Brady and Rodgers are so rare. They throw to the coverage – not to the name on the jersey.

    Freedom!!!
