Browns GM John Dorsey: “For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we’ve reached a point where we feel it’s best to part ways and move forward. We wish Josh well.”Freedom!!!

September 15, 2018 at 8:17 pm #13382IceKeymasterSo much wasted talent. Some other team is gonna give him a chance, I hope for his sake that he can overcome his demons.
It’s also possible that he failed a test, we won’t hear about it for a little while.
September 15, 2018 at 8:36 pm #13383soupParticipantRumor now is he’ll be traded before his Monday release
Freedom!!!
September 15, 2018 at 9:27 pm #13384DawgPoundDudeParticipantSupposedly due to a “hamstring pull” at a photo shoot. Guess he showed up late this morning to the team meeting, where he “wasn’t himself” according to reports.
If all teams are offering is a conditional pick, it’s probably best to just cut him, because we would essentially get nothing anyway.
This sucks, but to be honest, I’m far from shocked.
September 15, 2018 at 9:29 pm #13385DawgPoundDudeParticipantThen there’s this…
NFL exec who I contacted just now for reaction on Josh Gordon news and to inquire about any possible interest: "If they are letting him go, something is up."

Meanwhile, what are the odds the browns bring Dez in now?
September 16, 2018 at 12:08 am #13388DawgSoldierParticipantDez to Browns come Monday or Tuesday? I could see it.

September 16, 2018 at 8:29 am #13389IceKeymasterCalloway didn’t get a single target last week. I wonder why. Higgins though has been moving his way up the depth chart since offseason workouts began. At the end of last season if you asked me his chances of even making our roster I’d have said about 15%. Now he’s a starter and it’s because he has earned his way up from the bottom.
September 16, 2018 at 10:33 am #13390ShooterModeratorI don’t understand any of this. I don’t even know where to start.
So, after all these years of dealing with the drugs and suspensions, we’re gonna let him go NOW, for a hamstring pull and being tardy to a team meeting?
You release a statement saying you’re going to release him, THEN you say you’re looking to trade him. Who the fuck is gonna trade for him when you know that he’s going to be released on Monday? Why in the hell would Dorsey do that? If you want to get rid of him fine, but you just trade him then.
The guy was making the league minimum. I just don’t understand what the Browns had to lose in keeping him. I honestly don’t. If it was “trust” as has been reported……that’s a very sketchy reason to oust a guy. Did he fail a test? It won’t matter anyway if he did because he’s gonna be gone for good from the NFL.
So much going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about and none of it makes any sense to me. I can’t help but think, again, that we put up with so much for so long and now is when we part ways. That’s some real Brownsy shit and typical of this franchise. I’m just dumbfounded.
September 16, 2018 at 10:51 am #13391IceKeymasterI don’t understand any of this.
Finally you admit it.
No they didn’t dump him for a bad hammy and showing up late to 1 practice. There’s tons going on behind the scenes that none of us will probably never know about. What we do know is that he’s been given so many chances and somehow he blew it again. We reached the point where it was time to move on.
September 16, 2018 at 11:09 am #13409ShooterModeratorNo they didn’t dump him for a bad hammy and showing up late
Actually, it’s looking like that’s exactly what they did. Word is that Dorsey was pissed because he hurt his hamstring shooting a promotional video. He said that players are all held to the same high standard. Gordon practiced on Friday and was fine, and hurt himself shooting the video.
So we’re dumping him.
Again, I don’t fucking understand that. I’ve loved almost everything that Dorsey has done here, but in this case I find him to be amazingly off base and out of touch.
September 16, 2018 at 11:24 am #13410DawgSoldierParticipantto me this is a bad winning football move…but it is a very good move when it comes to changing the culture IMO.

September 16, 2018 at 11:38 am #13411soupParticipantSupposedly he also didn’t seem like himself. Reports are they want to trade him out of the AFC. He wants Sf Or Dallas but has no choice. Why would people trade for him? So they don’t have to fight to sign him

I haven’t seen one person who alleges that Dorsey is pissed just because he hurt his hamstring. That’s silly. Did you see on Hard Knocks how excited they were that he was arriving to the team? Specifically Dorsey?
Those in the know have said the issue was he showed up late on Saturday and ‘wasn’t himself’ (code for drunk or under the influence). So much so that they had team docs look him over. I imagine that there is much more to that story we won’t know about until MUCH further down the road but they said he had lost their trust which means he lied to them. Again.September 16, 2018 at 12:29 pm #13416ShooterModeratorIt doesn’t look like that at all.
Don’t know if you saw the Fox pregame, but this is exactly what Jay Glazer just said. Said the Browns had a zero tolerance policy with him, and the injury to the hamstring and lateness to the meeting was crossing a line in the sand. He also said Gordon has failed no tests and after checking with the league Gordon is facing no suspensions or violations of the substance abuse policy.
So, again, we’re cutting him because he hurt his hamstring shooting a promo video for his clothing line and was late to a team meeting on Saturday.
That, is fucking stupid.
September 16, 2018 at 12:29 pm #13417soupParticipantStory on pregame:
Browns said to him we have a zero tolerance policy for you. He was fine at practice, went to a promo video shoot for his clothing line.
Showed up late for a team meeting. Sent him to the doctors who saw something wasn’t right. He then said he hurt his hamstring.
Zero tolerance. Smart move by the team

September 16, 2018 at 1:44 pm #13419MDP Sack AttackParticipantI get it in the context of Harrison and Callaway, two players whom Dorsey wants to be a big part of our future, yet are starting their career in the same substance abuse program as Gordon. While neither one is on the same level of talent as Gordon, it’s important to show that we’ll be holding them accountable.
September 17, 2018 at 2:47 pm #13479DawgPoundDudeParticipantDude…if this is what’s going on, it’s pretty fucked up. Cabot makes a lot of sense here.

https://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2018/09/i_wouldnt_trade_or_release_jos.htmlNot really. For one, it’s 6 years of different GMs. One of them with actual success building successful franchises. Two, who cares if he’s successful elsewhere?

September 17, 2018 at 3:08 pm #13482IceKeymasterPretty scathing article by MaryKay there. But I agree with her. The story that is out about his torn hammy at an 11pm photo shoot causing him to be cut is about as believable as a politician running for office. It’s bullshit. We probably won’t know the real story for a while.
What I can tell you is that Hugh and Dorsey were very excited to get Gordon back on the field. We saw that in Hard Knocks. They allowed him to stay on the team despite missing all of camp at rehab and only announcing it (as is his custom) the night before. We also know the team generously changed his designation in the offseason just so he wouldn’t get tolled a season for being in rehab during camp. They didn’t have to do that at all and it cost them a roster spot. They basically bent over backwards for him in the past 3 months. Completely. He repays it by showing up late to meetings and being lazy (source Joe Thomas). If Gordon’s team orchestrated all this then fuck him.

Why? If he’s that lazy here he’s going to loathe Belichick

September 17, 2018 at 6:00 pm #13498Dawg E. DawgParticipantGordon would have preferred to be cut. Then, he could’ve signed with the highest bidder. Which, it wouldn’t have been a huge deal, but it would certainly have been more than the 790k he’s making. Since he was traded, his contract goes with him. That’s where he had a lot of value in a trade.
Personally, I’m just done with him and kind of relieved now to have the hope of him overshadowing everything. I hope he’s shit with the pats. It’s not personal, I hope every player is shot with the pats
September 17, 2018 at 6:38 pm #13501DawgSoldierParticipantBrowns got a fifth.
Oh and Corey Coleman got cut again to make room for Gordan.
I found that very ironic.
