Okay I have been hearing about this kid from Tulsa whose team plays in AAC conference from some family I have out in OKC.
The kid is 6-4 260 and plays LB in a 3-3-5 D same as Mack did at Buffalo Unniveristy when he was in the MAC conference.
Both are big guys that are/were athletic play makers playing LB at a small school level in a 3-3-5 D
So I need a lil help
One of my question is this guy to big to play LB in woods Cover 3 defense?
What is this guys best position in the league round peg round hole wise?Another guy this kid reminds me of in Kyle Van Noy another good college 3-3-5 OLB like Mack.
BTW here is an article on Zaven Collins whom I have been taliking about: https://www.underdogdynasty.com/2020/10/24/21531490/tulsa-outside-linebacker-zaven-collins-belongs-conversation-best-defensive-player-college-football

December 8, 2020 at 11:12 pm #20016DawgSoldierParticipantLinebacker Zaven Collins was announced Monday as one of 18 semifinalists for the Bednarik Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player.
Collins, who last week was named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award for the nation’s top linebacker, has 51 tackles including 11.5 for lost yardage, four sacks, four interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a safety.

Saints pick a blue-chip linebacker in PFF’s 2021 NFL mock draft Saints Newswire USAToday
“Collins did unprecedented things at the linebacker position this season for Tulsa. His 93.7 coverage grade sits well above the previous PFF record set by former UCLA Bruin and current Minnesota Viking Eric Kendricks in 2014 (92.1).“The 6-foot-4, 240-pound off-ball linebacker tallied four interceptions, three forced incompletions and nine passing stops when dropping into coverage. He was also one of the top blitzing weapons in the country. All told, Collins picked up 16 pressures on 51 rushes and was the only player at his position to record 90.0-plus grades in coverage and as a blitzer.”
Okay so the guy WRECKED the AAC at an unprecidented clip. Like Khalil Mack WRECKED the MAC when played in that conference.
The young man is just flat out immpresssive on and off the field.
Personnly I think the best NFL player comparison is Tremaine Edmunds of the Buffalo Bills: https://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?i=27084
If you watched Ravens vs Bills play off game you will see him in a 2 LB set most of the game.PFF 2021 NFL Draft Guide: PFF’s top LB prospect, plus a wild-card LB to watch
BIGGEST RISER: ZAVEN COLLINS, TULSA
Zaven Collins played everything in high school. Hailing from Hominy, Oklahoma — a city with a population of fewer than 4,000 people — Collins played quarterback, linebacker and safety as a four-year starter on both offense and defense at Hominy High School. He totaled 4,084 rushing yards, 54 rushing touchdowns, 3,056 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns and more than 200 tackles in his career at Hominy. The then-6-foot-3, 220-pounder didn’t have a single Power 5 offer as a three-star linebacker recruit. Collins participated in 12 different camps around the country in search of a scholarship offer, but it wasn’t until his last camp at Tulsa in July 2016 that he got what he was searching for from the Hurricane.
PFF’s 2021 NFL Draft Guide contains a full list of pros/cons, a long-form written analysis above a bar chart of stable PFF metrics and Mike Renner’s “Bottom Line” and “NFL Draft Projection” for every prospect in the guide.
With the linebacker position in the NFL getting smaller and smaller in recent years, Collins is a decidedly different animal. At 6-foot-4, 260 pounds, Collins has throwback thumper size combined with modern athleticism. His performance this past year for Tulsa was nothing short of special. He consistently made plays in coverage, with four picks and a pass breakup in only eight games. His best attribute when projecting to the next level, though, is what he can do as a blitzer — running backs aren’t blocking this dude. He’s going to be high on any blitz-heavy team’s draft board and will wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
NFL player comparison: A poor man’s Brian Urlacher
Biggest strength: Rare size
Biggest weakness: Tackling
Projection: First-round pick
Bottom line: Collins truly has a rare physical skill set. Scheme will be important, and he could be special in the right one.
So why or why not is he or isn’t a fit for the Browns D? Personally I have been strugling with this. BTW he is in play to be a low 1st rounder to high 2nd rounder from everything I can find.
I mean with the defensive woes this year, could you really be mad at AB if drafted the top defender in college football at 26th overall?
For those that might say he doesn’t fit the D. If Edmunds was a FA LB would you want AB to get him?http://cloudassetserver.com/STL/posts/185/sp_04_976x0.jpg

If I could edit the title I would. It would read: Best nickel linebacker in college football to the Browns at 26?

February 7, 2021 at 8:30 am #20644BrownsFan4LifeParticipantLinebackers aren’t a high priority for the Browns. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Trevon Moehrig, the safety, from TCU or Joseph Ossai, the Edge rusher, from Texas.

I would correct this to say ‘linebackers haven’t been a high priority for the Browns’. I think it needs to be a higher priority than it has been.

Guys that end up with the best defender in college football awards tend be exceptions to any kind of rule about positions. Because they also likely represent another rule. BPA.
As for Moehrig, I don’t see the Browns going 1st round safety with Delpit coming back.
As for Ossai he is more of a 34 LB than a 43 DE. He has even dropped in coverage and covers well.

February 9, 2021 at 3:41 pm #20650BrownsFan4LifeParticipantNo argument from me about linebackers needing to be a higher priority for the Browns. We definitely need to improve the defense. I just don’t believe the Browns will be picking a linebacker in round one.
They definitely need to improve the speed on defense.
