I like how Shooter says it better. Corn Fairy. That said, here are Corn Fairy’s Steps to GM success. To excel at the GM role, candidates should:

  • Work with and study a mentor who has had a wide breadth of experiences.
Work in an environment where they are exposed to multiple disciplines.
Select a collaborative organization with an open and transparent culture.
Exert amenability—be willing to do anything and be engaged with employees.
Develop a skill set that differentiates them from their colleagues.
Seek crucial experience in three years of a full cycle— draft, talent evaluation, free agency, player development, negotiations, etc.
  • So who is the mentor who has had a wide breadth of experiences? Is that DePaulo? Sashi? Haslam himself? I’d say none of the above, and that means that no matter who we chose according to Corn Fairy we’re setting ourselves up for failure.
