ParticipantKizers numbers looked terrible. Only saw the interception. Very rookie.
But I’m more referring to the fact that Kessler looks to have come in during half 2. Kizer should’ve played 3 Q. Seems like more mismanagement. No rhythm. No Qb taking all first team reps and more mess. I’m guessing after the numbers that Osweiler will start because he didn’t play tonight and that follows our MO. Less reps the better.

ModeratorYou obviously didn’t see the game. Those numbers are very misleading. Kizer looked, honestly, amazing. Multiple jaw-dropping passes. Lasers in windows normal people cannot throw. It was sick. Especially his rocket on the run to Coleman. the moment it happened I instantly got a chub.
Also, you’re “weak bodied bust” was outstanding tonight. He made a bunch of fantastic catches and had hands made of flypaper all night. Crisp, sharp routes. He and Kizer were on the same page and they looked very dangerous. The offense was consistently on the move all night. One drive ended on a bullshit phantom pass interference call where Coleman deked the DB out of his jock, made a fantastic catch on a great ball thrown by Kizer and they called him for a pass interference penalty. He literally never even touched the guy. Bullshit call.
Another drive ended on a Duke fumble after we were basically doing whatever we wanted.
The INT came on a tipped by on a nice play by the DB. Kizer held the ball a tad too long and stared the reciever down just enough for the DB to react and make a play. Those I can live with because he’ll learn from them. It wasn’t a bad pass or dumb decision, just some rookie ball.
Kizer was fantastic. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but he’s making a believer out of me. He’s the starter, and he just ended that discussion tonight.
Greg Williams defense was smothering, and Jabril Peppers added to his reputation as a ball hawk. Great pass rush, kept Winston and the Bucs in check all night.
Watch the game. We looked like a football team out there, and it was fun to see.

ParticipantI set it to record. Wasn’t ripping on Kizer for the pick. It was a rookie mistakes. He’s a rookie. That’s why I based it off numbers since I didn’t see it. Good to hear in the drops (well, not really good to hear receiver dropping the ball – but you get what I mean).

ParticipantDude, Peppers int was a horrible throw Missing a wide open guy and hitting Peppers in the chest. Come on now.
Defense will impress me by holding Pitt under 20 in game 1. Preseason? Nope. If memory serves me Detroit went 4-0 with an awesome D and Tree went nuts over it. They then went 0-16

ParticipantWell, it’s a good thing they don’t play to impress you then, Soup.
Shooter, your assessment of Kizer is on point. His numbers were bad, but man did he look great putting them up. The “push-off” penalty against Coleman was more of the same bullshit phantom calls we’ve endured in the past, and the Duke fumble destroyed what was a likely touchdown drive. Despite the numbers, we actually looked…competitive!
I hope this momentum carries into the regular season.

Let me rephrase. Was the D impressive in those 3 games? Sure. Does it mean anything to me? No. Why? Because of Detroit. Dominate D. 4-0. 0-16 when it mattered.
Come out game 1 and hold a team like Pittsburgh under 20 and my attention will be had.

What the hell does Detroit of 9 years ago have to do with us today? Nothing. Nothing at all. The dots you connect sometimes are just stupefying.

You’ve earned your signature for the day again. It means preseason D doesn’t translate to regular season D. Detroit was #1 preseason D. I’ll be impressed when they do it against Pittsburgh week 1. That’s when they’ll get my full attention.

ParticipantDaaaaaamn, he just whipped out the Edsel jokes.
But I get what you’re saying Soup. And just like the win/loss, preseason means nothing in terms of numbers.
But that doesn’t mean good things aren’t happening. Despite having great field position for a good chunk of the game, despite fielding what many consider a playoff team, Tampa Bay never once got into the end zone.
In fact, only one touchdown against us in three (granted, preseason) games. If you refuse to get excited that’s fine. But ask yourself- when is the last time that has happened on this team? Short answer for me is…to my knowledge, not since we’ve came back in ’99 (feel free to dig something up to prove otherwise).
I haven’t been excited about much with this team for years…and I have to admit, I’m getting pretty fucking excited.
Fuck Pittsburgh. Come get some.

ParticipantWow an Edsel man that takes me back the last one rolled out of Detroit the year I was born, but really I watched the game last night and was more than impressed Kizer was doing the things a QB needs to do yes he made some rookie mistakes but watching him I thought this kid could be the real deal the last QB we had with this kind of talent go back to Vinney Testeverde. Defense has looked great so far now we need a running game plan to help the kid and a receiver or two to step up and look out. Already scopeing out the recievers coming out in the 18′ draft.
