This is a bizarre situation indeed. Per Schefter Depodesta contract runs out this week.
They aren’t planning on having him sign a new one until the coach is hired and they all sign at the same tune to show a unified front.
That means:
A. We are hiring our coach this week (Mcdaniels tonight is my guess)
B. It drags on and Depodesta leaves and goes back to baseball.
What a strange situation

Just when you think dysfunction is at its peak, they build a new level. I won’t be crying if Depodesta leaves. He’s been a constant in the suck and adds zero value.

January 6, 2020 at 10:13 pm #17824Dawg E. DawgParticipantThat is freaking weird.
Can you please, for the love of god, explain why you think he adds zero value?? I’ve seen you bash him multiple times for absolutely no reason.
And I can’t figure it out. I haven’t heard any moves attributed to him, aside from him wanting Sean McDermott over Hue, and Stefanksi over Freddy. You would have loved the McDermott hire.
So, did he slip in the sheets with your wife, or what?
January 6, 2020 at 11:11 pm #17827soupParticipantStefanski, who everyone is obsessed with, had he been hired last year had 0 head coaching experience and 3 games as interim OC. Freddie Jr.
I don’t get the obsession.
McDermott hires Daboll as OC. The horrific Josh Allen threw 43 times to 13 runs with their RB.
Great defense, but runs a typical Browns offense.
Depodesta is a baseball guy that doesn’t even live in Cleveland. What has he lent to the team in anyway shape or form?
As Chief strategy officer he is 14-49-1. Unless his strategy is to move the team to England, WTF does he do?

January 7, 2020 at 6:12 am #17832Dawg E. DawgParticipantI honestly didn’t realize Stefanski had so little experience. Mostly because I haven’t looked all that much at coaches, as I’m just relying on the Haslams to make the worst possible choice.
As for Daboll, that’s a terrible Souptistic, even for you. They had 13 runs from Singletary, but another 8 from Gore. You may have heard of him, he also plays RB. And another 9 from Josh Allen. He does a lot of designed runs, some I’m guessing Daboll called around 28 runs, to 46 pass attempts.
I didn’t see the game, but I’m guessing those numbers are skewed by a couple end of half scenarios where they threw the ball a lot to try to score as time was running out. Though, I don’t know.
What I DO KNOW, is Josh Allen has the fewest attempts among ALL QBs that started 16 games. The FEWEST. Buffalo runs all the time. And you’re still complaining about passing too much. It’s comical, really.
January 7, 2020 at 7:05 am #17833soupParticipantThey’d have won the game had the run the ball. It was a fun game to watch, but they forgot they had a running back and Josh Allen is AWFUL. He made some of the most bone headed plays you could ever witness

January 7, 2020 at 9:08 am #17834IceKeymasterJosh Allen is blessed with a cannon of an arm but the aim of a 4-year-old. Unless you pair him with Randy Moss he’s a liability as much as he is a blessing. And yet this dude threw 20 TD’s to only 9 INT’s this season under Daboll. Soup you also forgot that Allen is a featured part of their running game. He ran 9 times for 92 yards in the playoff game you’re lamenting. I watched it. At no point did I question the run/pass playcalling. I think it fit the game well. When they were ahead and trying to use time they ran. When they were behind and needed to score fast, they passed. Otherwise it was a mix of the 2.
January 10, 2020 at 12:58 am #17863BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI have to laugh at this one. McDermott took a horrible franchise and they are a playoff team. Daboll did a hell of a lot better job with Josh Allen than Freddie did with Mayfield. As a matter of fact Josh Allen led ALL NFL QBs in rushing Touchdowns.
BTW McDermott is who Depodesta wanted to hire instead of Hue Jackson.
At any rate, you can knock what McDermott and Daboll have done in Buffalo but I would rather make the playoffs then be sitting home for the 17th year in a row.December 1, 2020 at 12:13 pm #19927Dawg E. DawgParticipantHad to look up this thread and give Depodesta credit.
Can you imagine where we would be if the numb nuts owner had listed to Paul Depodesta and hired Stefanski instead of Kitchens?
Also, let that sink in. The Haslams interviewed Freddy Kitchens and Kevin Stefanski, had their chief strategy officer, a guy who’s only job is to make these kind of decisions, tell them to hire Stefanski. And they hired Freddy friggin Kitchens.

To answer Soup’s question up thread he KNOWS how to pick a coach that matches the roster and to get the most out of said roster. The only game were I think the Browns could of won and didn’t was the raiders game. Thats ecellent for a rookie HC. the next 2 games are gonna be tough…..well unless the rats are still snakebit with covid.
